Deuxième fiction de Eva Neymann après Au bord de l'eau en 2006, il s'agit du dernier rôle au cinéma de Yekaterina Golubeva, décédée peu après le tournage.
Le film est sorti en salles en France le 20 novembre 2013, distribué par A3 Distribution.
Synopsis
À l'hiver 1944, un garçonnet de huit ans traverse l'URSS en train, accompagné de sa mère, afin de rendre visite à son grand-père. Le voyage se trouve compromis lorsque la mère tombe gravement malade : hospitalisée d’urgence, elle meurt du typhus dans un village inconnu plongé par la Seconde Guerre mondiale dans une misère sombre, comme de nombreuses autres bourgades du pays. Livré à lui-même au milieu de paysages désolés et d'une population cupide et nécessiteuse, l'enfant reste toutefois déterminé à mener à terme son périple.Actors

In 1184 France, Balian (Orlando Bloom), a blacksmith, is haunted by his wife's recent suicide. A group of Crusaders reach his village; one of them introduces himself as Balian's father, Baron Godfrey of Ibelin (Liam Neeson). The story of Saladin (Ahmed Mazhar) portrays the title character, ruler of the kingdoms surrounding Jerusalem, during the events of the Third Crusade. The film starts with Jerusalem, which is under the authority of the Christians of Europe, having its Muslim pilgrims slaughtered by the Christians in the holy lands. Saladin upon hearing this news seeks the reclamation of the holy lands in a short, almost impossible campaign. He succeeds in taking back Jerusalem, which leads the powers of Europe to organize the Third Crusade with the combined forces of the French king (Omar El-Hariri) and German emperor under the leadership of Richard the Lionheart of England. Saladin succeeds in preventing the recapture of Jerusalem, and in the end negotiations between himself and Richard (whom Saladin admires as the only honorable infidel leader) leave the Holy Land in Muslim hands.

Specialist Ray Elwood (Joaquin Phoenix) is a U.S. Army soldier stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1989. In 1982, Ari Folman was a nineteen-year-old infantry soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In 2006, he meets with a friend from his army service period, who tells him of the nightmares connected to his experiences from the Lebanon War. Folman is surprised to find that he remembers nothing from that period. Later that night he has a vision from the night of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, the reality of which he is unable to clearly recall. In his memory, he and his soldier comrades are bathing at night by the seaside in Beirut under the light of flares descending over the city.
