Gurushetram – 24 Hours of Anger is a 2010 Singaporean Tamil crime thriller film directed by T. T. Dhavamanni. Written by Dhavamani and Chong Tze Chien, the film stars Vishnu, Sivakumar, Mathialagan, Rajesh Kannan, Gunalan in the lead roles. The film, produced by Blue River Pictures in collaboration with the Singapore Film Commission, is considered the first full length Tamil film produced entirely in Singapore.

Singayil Gurushetram chronicles the trials and tribulations of the protagonist Prakash and how he overcomes these in his mission to protect his mentally challenged brother from the Singapore underworld, drug barons and law breakers. Filming was accomplished mainly on locations in and around Singapore and Ulu Tiram, Johor, Malaysia. The film was distributed in Singapore by Golden Village Pictures and had a theatrical release in India as Singayil Gurushetram on 25 March 2011.

Synopsis

Set in contemporary Singapore, Gurushetram - 24 Hours of Anger, is a sinuously provocative, edge-of-your-seat thriller about Prakash who is brought up in a particular segment of the working-class Indian society lined with the wreckage of broken families and dreams. Prakash, a 17-year-old, losing his family, seeks shelter with his uncle Vinod, the head of a drug ring, with his mentally challenged younger brother. The two teenagers emerge as pivotal accomplices in Vinod’s clandestine drug operations.

Jeevanandhan "Jeeva" (Vijay) is a very rich young man. Although his parents (Sivakumar and Srividhya) want him to settle down, he goes to another city to do his MBA and stays with friends. During this time, he meets Mini (Shalini) and they fall in love. She reciprocates his feelings, but trouble comes in the form of her tyrannical trio of brothers (Raatha Ravi, Thalaivasal Vijay and Shaji Khan) who are over-protective of their little sister and take an irrational dislike to Jeeva. They show hostility towards Jeeva and conflicts arise within the households and the couple decides to elope, they go to Kesavan’s Hometown and Manivannan refuge them before the Proposed Wedding. Jeeva tries to convince his mother one last time and in vain. On the day of the wedding both realize they miss their families. They decide to return home, relinquishing their feelings, and the families are happy and take them back. Jeeva’s Mom wants to see Mini so that she can get a better wife for his son goes to meet Mini. Initially reluctant to welcome them, the brothers hesitate, but their mother is welcomes them, ultimately their families accept their love, and they are reunited.

J.K. Balaganapathy (Sivakumar), popularly known as JKB, is a gifted carnatic musician but his wife Bhairavi (Sulakshana), despite her love and loyalty, fails to satisfy or challenge him intellectually. For JKB, this, and her inability to have children, is a problem. Gajapathi (Janagaraj) works for JKB as a tambura musician, and he is a compulsive liar. The film starts with an introduction of all characters of the film followed by JKB going to a concert where he finds Gurumoorthy (Delhi Ganesh), who works for JKB as a Mridangam musician, drunk. He instructs Gurumoorthy to leave the premises and performs in the concert without the use of Mridangam which is considered a basic/compulsory instrument to perform a carnatic concert. When Gurumoorthy is asked to permanently leave the band, he promises not to drink again. While Bhairavi's grandfather is going to receive his pension, which he does on the first of every month, Gajapathi lies to him that his pension has been cancelled. The old man starts crying and JKB intervenes to confirm that his pension is not canceled and that he can go and collect it. JKB then scolds Gajapathi for it and tells him the old man could have died on hearing such a lies, as he is very particular about his pension. Following this, when JKB finds out that Gajapathi has lied to him too and others causing problems he asks him to promise to speak the truth.
