Here I Am, Here I Stay (German: Hier bin ich – hier bleib ich) is a 1959 West German musical comedy film directed by Werner Jacobs and produced by Artur Brauner. It stars Caterina Valente, Hans Holt and Ruth Stephan. The film also features a guest appearance by Bill Haley.

Synopsis

The singer Caterine, owner of a bar/night club in Paris, wants to marry her boyfriend Pierre. However, at the registrar's office she finds out that she is allegedly already married to one Baron Hubert von Löwenherz, owner of a castle. A former employee had stolen Caterine's documents and married the Baron under her assumed identity — before disappearing with the family jewels. Caterine travels to the Baron's castle, where a visit by his rich uncle forces the Baron to stage a life of married harmony with Caterine as his wife. Eventually, Caterine and the Baron fall for each other, whilst Pierre finds a new romance with the castle's cook.

Caterina Bastiani, a talented young actress, is offered the leading role in a musical. This is her big break but the author of the novel on which the musical is based is less than pleased about this adaption — and he does not think much of Caterina. Caterina meets a girl by accident who has applied to work for the author as a maid. Le jeune Martin Hinterkirchner a quitté le village de Himmelsberg pour se rendre à Vienne, où il a obtenu un emploi de répétiteur à l'opéra. C'est une désillusion : le travail n'est qu'un poste d'assistant. Martin doit donc vivre chez l'ancienne chanteuse d’opéra Cäsarina Zwanziger et être son pianiste. Il écrit secrètement, soutenu par le fils de Cäsarina Peter, du schlager qu'il soumet au manager de musique Cobold. Surtout pour la chanson La Serenata qu'il a écrite pour la star schlager Linda Borg, mais elle est d'abord présentée à la manager de Linda, Isolde Fürchtenich, tombe dans la main, qui n'en veut pas. Martin est déçu et pense que Linda est maintenant une personne arrogante. Le grand-père de Martin, Leopold, qui arrive à l'exposition canine à Vienne avec son teckel Seppl, est impressionné par Linda. Quand le jury exclut Seppl au premier tour à cause de son pedigree manquant, c'est Linda qui fait l'éloge du "chien de race".

Mariandl revient à Dürnstein après des études de piano à l'académie de musique et des arts du spectacle de Vienne. Elle rend visite à son grand-père Windischgruber qui a fait un héritage : une cousine lui a légué un domaine dans la Wachau, il s'imagine qu'il s'agit d'un château. Mais sur place, ils se rendent compte que le château sera à eux s'ils l'achètent. Le domaine est une ferme délabrée avec des chiens et des chevaux. Les chevaux ne font pas partie de la succession, ils sont "réservés" pour le douteux Deininger. Ils achètent les chevaux à des cirques en faillite et en fait du salami en Italie. Tant qu'il n'a pas assez de chevaux à transporter, il les met en pâturage sur les terrains de Windischgruber.
