Synopsis
Deborah Fielding mène un quotidien bien rangé : une maison irréprochable, un voisinage idéal, en somme, une vie parfaite. Mais cette journaliste va ouvrir la boite de Pandore en voulant révéler les pratiques douteuses et la corruption régnant dans l'enceinte fermée de l'institut psychiatrique Edgewater. En menaçant d'exposer une organisation secrète pratiquant des expériences sur les êtres humains, elle va plonger dans une spirale infernale qu'elle ne pourra plus arrêter. Des démons ressurgissant de son passé vont lui faire découvrir qu'elle n'est finalement pas observatrice de cette machination mais le sujet principal de leurs expériences.Actors

On a beach in Australia, two American surfers say goodbye to each other as one is about to leave for his flight back to California. The two men don't notice the large number of dead birds on the beach. On the flight, the surfer returning home starts coughing up blood and dies before the plane can land. Back in Australia, the other surfer is found dead in his apartment. Kayla Martin (Tiffani Thiessen) is a medical doctor with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) who has been assigned to the case. She and the local officials carry the body of the surfer out of the plane and start processing people to be put in quarantine until they can be evaluated for exposure. During the transfer, one of the passengers escapes to complete a business deal and unknowingly spreads the virus throughout Los Angeles. It is also revealed that outbreaks of the so-called "riptide virus" (as it comes to be known), an offshoot of the bird flu, are occurring in other cities around the world.

Louisiana Governor Chip Majors (James DuMont) is front in line to be North Carolina Senator Edmonds' (Steven Bauer) Vice Presidential nominee. The day he is to be announced, Majors goes to a hotel, where he meets a prostitute. After a few moments, the prostitute takes out a gun and tries to assassinate him, but Majors overpowers her, and realizes that a group (led by a man named Graham (Billy Zane), is trying to assassinate him before he is chosen.
