Pudhiya Geethai (Tamil: புதிய கீதை ; English: New Gita) is a 2003 Indian Tamil film written and directed by newcomer K.P. Jagan, starring Vijay, Meera Jasmine and Ameesha Patel in lead roles. Notably, this film is Patel's first and remains her only Tamil film till date. The film, which has music scored by brothers Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja, released on 8 May 2003 to positive reviews and was a average hit at box office. The movie was dubbed in Hindi as Ek Dumdaar The Powerful.

The film tells the tale of a man who has positive attitude in his life and a never-give-up attitude. The story starts as if the hero at his birth and an astrologer tells his wife that the man will die at the age of 27. The story tells that whether will the hero die at 27 or not.

Synopsis

Sarathy (Vijay) shines in every fact of life and be a role model to every youngster was predicted by an astrologer who also predicted that his life will end when he is 27. Without knowing this, Sarathy enjoys his life. Suji (Meera Jasmine) is his close friend while Jo (Amisha Patel), a photojournalist, adores Sarathy for his attitude and tricks Suji by saying she loves him and plays with her emotions. The incidents that follow with the accord to the astrologer's prediction forms the rest of the story.The power of positive thinking and the power of spoken word has been dramatically portrayed by Sarathy's character.

Thirumalai (Vijay) mechanic who lives in Pudupet and has three close friends for whom he would do anything. Arasu plots an attempt to kill Thirumalai. Does Thirumalai succeed in winning his girl or is he caught up in the plot against him forms the rest of the story.

Vetrivel aka Velu (Vijay) is a car racer who lives with his large family in Chennai. His father, Singamuthu (Manivannan), had gone to Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh to work at a colliery and never returned, prompting Velu and his family to think that he is dead. Velu comes to know that a Malaysia-based don named Koccha (Suman) owes his father a huge sum of money. Velu and his friend Pons (Vivek) travel to Malaysia as Kuruvi, the trade jargon for low-level contraband carriers. They come to Malaysia at a time when internal rivalry and problems are surfacing in Koccha's family. Koccha's younger sister Devi (Trisha Krishnan) has refused to marry Soori (Pawan), the brother of Konda Reddy (Ashish Vidyarthi), Koccha's Kadapa-based business associate, as per Koccha's wishes. Irritated and preoccupied, neither Koccha nor his henchmen want to devote any time or attention to resolve Velu's problem. Velu is ill-treated and thrown out of Koccha's place without any help rendered. Determined to return to India only after his father's issue is solved to his satisfaction, Velu conceals himself in Koccha's palace-like residence. He soon finds out about a large diamond owned by Koccha and steals it, feeling that it would pay off his father's debt, and returns to India with Pons. Devi also follows Velu to India, having fallen in love with him.
