It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival. The film was restored in 2010 by the World Cinema Foundation at Cineteca di Bologna /L’Immagine Ritrovata Laboratory and released as Revenge.

Synopsis
La Flûte de roseau débute par un prologue situé dans une Corée médiévale : un roi veut élever son fils indiscipliné dans la tradition martiale. À l'âge adulte, le prince devient un monarque imbu de son autorité et arrogant. Le jeune roi s'apprête à exécuter un de ses subordonnés. Son ami d'enfance, également poète, tente de l'en dissuader. Celui-ci décide aussi de quitter le royaume pour reconquérir sa liberté et retrouver son inspiration.Actors

Izrael (Izia) Arie, a Lithuanian Jew and a world-renowned Moscow heart surgeon, learns that he has only six months to live because of pancreatic cancer. He retires immediately and sets out to find his first love, Sonia Schworz, with whom he shared an attic on a Lithuanian farm while hiding from the Nazis for a large part of World War Two. Their re-union takes place in Israel, where Sonia settled after the war. Although the couple has not seen each other for sixty years, it turns out that in the meantime they have been following similar life paths, not unlike twins separated at birth. Both have achieved enviable prosperity and enjoy the company of much younger bedfellows. To get these youngsters out of the way, Sonia unceremoniously dumps her lover Chaim, while Izia's pregnant wife Olga is quickly persuaded to marry Sonia's grandson Yossi.

In the aftermath of the victory in France, Hitler decides to attack the Soviet Union and selects Marshal von Bock in charge of leading Army Group Center of the Wehrmacht into Russia.
