Add to a movie listThe Fix is a 1997 television film first shown on BBC One and directed by Paul Greengrass.
It tells the story of the British betting scandal of 1964, following which a number of British professional footballers were jailed and banned from football for life for conspiring to fix the results of matches. Prominent among those jailed and banned were the Sheffield Wednesday F.C. stars Peter Swan, Tony Kay and David Layne.
The part of Mike Gabbert – the Sunday People journalist who led the investigation into the scandal – was played by Steve Coogan. Jason Isaacs played the part of Tony Kay, through whose eyes the story is largely told, while the part of Jimmy Gauld – the ex-footballer who masterminded the betting ring – was played by Christopher Fulford.
The story centres on Gabbert building his exclusive during the latter stages of the 1962/63 season. A time when Kay is rising to be considered one of the best players in the game, having joined Everton with whom he wins the League title.
Although the film is based on fact, some details and characters were fictionalised.
Neither David Layne or Peter Swan were consulted in the making of this film.

Following his pursuit by Kirill, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) evades Moscow police. During the late 19th century, an unidentified Chinese man robs the Bank of England. To evade the police, he becomes the valet for Phileas Fogg, an inventor, taking the pseudonym Passepartout. Phileas, just before Passepartout arrived, had been trying to break the 50-mph speed barrier, and after succeeding with the help of Passepartout, they head to the Royal Academy of Science. There, Fogg is insulted by the other "brilliant minds", in particular William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, who believes that everything worth discovering has already been discovered. Théo est un garçon de 12 ans qui semble promis à un bel avenir dans le football. Fils de parents divorcés, il vit avec son père qui part un peu à la dérive ayant perdu ses espoirs d'une vie à reconstruire. Malheureusement, Théo échoue au test de qualification à cause de sa trop petite taille, raison qui est l'origine de son surnom « fourmi ». Il ne peut annoncer cet échec à son père et va se lancer dans un mensonge qu'il va avoir de plus en plus de mal à maîtriser et qui va entraîner des conséquences multiples.
