The film won the FIPRESCI Award for Best Asian Film at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala.
Synopsis
In the high flatlands of Algeria, Islamic terrorists continue to spread terror..Rashid, a young jihadist leaves the mountains to return to his village.In keeping with the law of "pardon and national harmony", he has to surrender to the police and give up his weapon. He thus receives amnesty and becomes a "repenti". But the law cannot erase his crimes, and for Rashid, it is the beginning of a one way journey of violence, secrets and manipulationComments

L'Algérie en 1989 : peu de temps après les émeutes d'octobre 1988, la vie quotidienne est dure dans le quartier de Bab El Oued à Alger. Omar is a young and lively, rather macho Algerian who holds a good job in the Department of Frauds and lives in a crowded apartment with his sisters, his mother and grandparents. The translator Fariba Tabrizi (29, played by Jasmin Tabatabai) is living under the threat of the death penalty in her own country Iran after being revealed, by the vice squad, to be homosexual. With some support from a relative, Fariba is able to flee from her home country to Germany. When she is in the refugee detention centre at Frankfurt Airport her application for asylum is turned down. She lives hour by hour with the thought in mind that she may be deported. Her desperate prospects are dramatically improved by the suicide of a fellow-inmate also from Iran she assumes his identity and, as Siamak Mustafai, and using his temporary permit of sojourn, is re-located to the provinces of Swabia.

Casablanca, 1960. Henri and Brahim are childhood friends despite their different religions. They are managing the sawmill their fathers created and ran successfully for years. In 1929, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini (Rod Steiger) is still faced with the 20-year-long war waged by patriots in the Italian colony of Libya to combat Italian colonization and the establishment of "The Fourth Shore"—the rebirth of a Roman Empire in Africa.
