Anhonee is a 1952 Bollywood psychological drama film directed by K. A. Abbas. The film stars Nargis in a dual role alongside Raj Kapoor in the lead supported by Achla Sachdev, Om Prakash, Agha and David Abraham in other prominent roles. The film had music composed by Roshan while lyrics were written by Ali Sardar Jafri. Nargis was highly appreciated for enacting a dual role and her performance garnered critical acclaim. Abbas attempted to explore two concepts—Geneticsm and Determinism, a theme which he experimented in Aawara (1951).

Synopsis

The film deals with the story of two sisters—Mohini and Roop—both played by Nargis—the legal one raised by a courtesan and the illegal child. As time passes by, Roop falls in love with Rajkumar Saxena (played by Raj Kapoor), an advocate—who is a tenant—comes to pay the house rent to her father, but instead meets Roop. Soon they involve in a deeper romantic relationship, and Roop convinces her father for their marriage.

Dev Anand is an ex-army officer who gets a job in a tea estate. He is hired as a an over-all manager by the English owners. Anand proves a loyal and diligent worker meting out punishment to the workers on the behest of his owners. He falls in love with one of the tea-picking girls (Nalini Jaywant). The workers rebel against the harsh and sometimes brutal management of the estate owners. Nalini Jaywant is shot by the owner in the rioting when the workers get out of control. A gradual change has also come over Anand, especially in his dealings with the tea workers, and losing interest, he leaves the place.

Amber (Baby Tanuja), a young orphaned tribal girl, stays with her maternal grandfather who is the Chief. She learns that her father was a prince who had married her mother but was killed. The cause of the murder was unknown and the killers were never caught. Her mother had committed suicide soon after. However, she is let known through palace intrigue that her grandfather, the King, had got her father killed. She decides to avenge her father's death by killing her grandfather. Ambar, on one of her outings meets Raj (Raj Kapoor), and the two fall in love. Raj turns out to be a bandit, but his father is a loyal server to the king. Raj's father fears that someone is going to harm the king so he sends Raj to the palace. Raj arrives there pretending to be a teacher.

Ganga Singh (Jalal Agha), newly married to Gauri (Simi Garewal), brings his wife to his village where he lives with his father Hari Singh (Sajjan), and sister Sonki (Madhu Chanda). Asha (Mala Sinha) is in court facing a murder trial. Puran (Bharat Bhushan), a lawyer and journalist, takes the case. The story then goes into flashback, showing Asha working in the rationing office just after the war. She comes from a poor family and is the sole earning member. She also has six younger sisters to take care of. Puran comes from a rich family; his father is Seth Mulchand, a business man. However, Puran decides to work for a newspaper, as a reporter. Asha likes Puran's articles exposing corruption and black-marketing, and his articles on working women. She gets interested in meeting the writer. The two meet in her office at her place of work. While leaving, Puran manages to drop his papers, and they get jumbled up with the papers on Asha's desk. Her paycheck, which was lying on the desk, is picked up by Puran by mistake along with his own papers. She meets Puran again to get her check back.
