Mandy Jenkins (Cora Green), an African American cook for a wealthy white family in Birmingham, Alabama, discovers her husband Cornell is having an affair with Eloise Jackson (Hazel Diaz). When she confronts her husband and Eloise at a nightclub, a violent fight ensues. Eloise leaves Birmingham and relocates to the Harlem section of New York City, where she gets a job as a cabaret vocalist under the false name of Cora Smith. She is followed to Harlem by her husband, Lem, who becomes mixed up in the local crime scene. Mandy also arrives in New York, having left Cornell. She gets a job as the wardrobe mistress at the cabaret where Eloise is performing. When Eloise breaks her leg during a drunken fall, Mandy is recruited as the last-minute substitute and becomes a musical star as the revue is transferred to Broadway. Cornell, who is now destitute, reunites with Mandy and agrees never to cheat on her again.

A young, dashing, and honest Police Inspector, who lives with Mr. and Mrs. Prasad, goes to a small town in Southern India to be introduced to a prospective bride, Koyal, the daughter of Gopinath. Prasad starts recounting his mother, Gayetri's, life, the fact that Amavas drugged her(Gayetri) and had sex with her but refuses to acknowledge her after he winning a local election, a man who was selected by a shady politician to lure the innocent public to vote for him - so that he can plunder the nation to no end. Watch as this story takes you back in time, showing the greed and avarice that can encompass even the simplest of men - making him turn into a demon.

Two men drink at a coffee shop late at night as the film recalls their recent sexual activities. The middle-aged man has just committed his first groping of a woman on a train, and the man in his mid-twenties has just broken up with his unfaithful girlfriend after forcing sex on her. The two speak to each other and the older man gradually becomes a nuisance to the younger man, intent on revealing more and more of his past. Unable to get rid of him, the younger man takes the older man on a late night motorcycle ride through Tokyo. Through a series of flashbacks, it becomes apparent to the audience that the younger man's girlfriend is having an affair with the older man.

Famous aerobatic pilot Gerry Vail (Anne Gwynne), a member of "The Flying Vails", is afraid that her 100th flight may be her last, a fate that befell her father and brothers during their 100th performance. Roberta assures her that her 100th flight has already taken place.

Loretta Young plays the part of an orphan who has been raised by two thieves (Raymond Hatton and George Barraud) and does not know that she has a twin sister who is now a wealthy socialite (Loretta Young as Margaret Waring). One day, while she is dining at a Chinese restaurant with her two guardians, they notice the wealthy socialite and are taken aback at how closely she resembles Young. Hatton and Barraud convince Young that she should impersonate the socialite so that they can enter her house and steal the contents of her safe. Young enters the house and meet Jack Mulhall who senses something different about Waring and immediately falls in love with Young. When night falls, Young lets Hatton and Barraud into the house and they attempt to open the safe. Waring happens to enter the house and is shocked to find a woman that looks like her. She is wounded by Barraud and Young tricks the police into thinking that Waring is an imposter and thief. Even though Mulhall knows the truth, he keeps quiet because he is in love with Young. Eventually Young discovers that Waring is her twin sister when they discover that they have matching lockets. The charges against Waring are dropped and Young accepts Mulhall's proposal of marriage.

It is later revealed that Maud is harbouring a secret plot of revenge that brought her to China. Maud decides to tell her two trusted companions what that secret is.
