Après la prise du pouvoir par l'ayatollah Khomeini, Hibat et Fereshteh constatent qu'un tyran a succédé à un autre, et sont contraints de fuir leur pays en 1984. Le film raconte leur vie en Iran dans la clandestinité, leur fuite dangereuse puis leur exil en France. Après leur arrivée en Seine-Saint-Denis, ils s'intègrent et s'impliquent dans la vie associative locale. Leur fils s'oriente vers les métiers du spectacle et deviendra l'humoriste Kheiron.

In the city of Lagos, Nigeria, Warri-based Nigerians, Akpors (Ayo Makun), an impulsive but funny young man and his more reserved, learned cousin, Richard (Ramsey Nouah), an I.T. consultant are invited to a luxurious real estate showcase party sponsored by a businessman and realtor, Dr. Johnson Adetola Briggs (Majid Michel) with his wife (Juliet Ibrahim) in new Lekki Gardens Estate, Lagos. Akpors unexpectedly wins a 30 day prize trip to Atlanta, U. S. A. for a couple in the raffle draw. Akpors decides to go with his cousin on the trip. On hearing about their winning, Richard's former girlfriend, Ese (Mercy Johnson) whom he recently broke up with, decides to reconcile with him in order to seize the opportunity to follow him to the United States. Richard suspects her motive and declines to her advances and plea for reconciliation. They proceed to make travel arrangements. Richards' mum (Racheal Oniga), a smoked-fish trader, is only amused when Richard reports Ese's glaring intentions stating that his American trip is already stale news. He gives her a laptop with Skype software installed and internet connection so that she can communicate with him at will, with uncle James' assistance. His mum is elated to learn of such a gadget.

Vijay Chatterjee, a lonely widower is a successful restaurateur in Montreal. He hires Maarya, who recently emigrated from Calcutta, to work in his restaurant. But she plays along, keeping the secret from the elder Chatterjee, so that she can remain in the country. As she is eventually involved with her benefactor and now father-in-law, things get more complicated when Zakir, her jealous knife-wielding brother (and her lover in India), enters their lives and Maarya is found to be pregnant.
