Biography
Né dans le New Jersey, il part pour New York en 1972 et travaille comme dessinateur industriel. Il commence sa carrière au cinéma dans le département décoration sur les films Dar l'invincible (1982), comme assistant décorateur, puis La Nuit de la comète (1984), comme décorateur plateau. Il travaille dès lors sur plusieurs films indépendants et commence avec Reservoir Dogs (1992) une longue collaboration avec Quentin Tarantino qui fait décoller sa carrière. Il est nommé au Satellite Award de la meilleure direction artistique pour Kill Bill en 2004 et au British Academy Film Award des meilleurs décors pour Inglourious Basterds en 2010. Il remporte l'Oscar des meilleurs décors en 2017 pour La La Land.Il vit à Los Angeles avec sa femme, Sandy Reynolds-Wasco, décoratrice de plateau avec laquelle il collabore souvent.

Officer Dave Brown (Harrelson) has two ex-wives who are sisters (Anne Heche and Cynthia Nixon), and he cheated on both. Brown has a daughter from each marriage which creates conflict at home. Dave also has contentious relationships with his children. However, the film starts with his other home, which is the beat. Dave patrols streets occupied by gangs, and he creates problems for himself with increasing severity. Dave forcibly obtains a confession out of a convenience store thief. Later he is caught on tape beating someone almost to death. The beating is still playing on television when he's involved in a suspicious shooting. These incidents get Dave in trouble with an already beleaguered police department, and he faces either sanctions or forced retirement. Dave tries to talk his way out of trouble with an assistant district attorney (Sigourney Weaver). Dave realizes that his superiors are less concerned about what he has done but more concerned about the predicament he has created by getting caught.

Marty Faranan (Farrell) is a struggling writer in Los Angeles, California who dreams of finishing his screenplay, Seven Psychopaths. In 1941, SS colonel Hans Landa, the "Jew Hunter", interrogates French dairy farmer Perrier LaPadite as to the whereabouts of the last unaccounted-for Jewish family in the neighborhood. Under threat of continued harassment from the Germans, LaPadite reveals that the Dreyfus family is hidden under the floor. Landa orders SS soldiers to shoot through the floorboards and kill the family. All are killed except Shosanna, who escapes and flees through the field.
