Surya (Prashanth) is a carefree youth living in Malaysia with his brother Chandramohan (Raghuvaran) and sister-in-law Devi (Sukanya). Chandramohan and Devi are childless because of a problem with Chandramohan. Surya falls in love with dancer Priya (Riya Sen) and manages to steal her heart too. Just when things seem happy, a bombshell is dropped by a Sister Mary who tells Surya that he is the father of a small girl Pooja. Pooja must undergo an operation to save her life but insists on seeing her dad before agreeing to the operation. Surya agrees to pose as her dad and is forced to do so on a more permanent basis even after the operation is done. He is driven out of the house and loses Priya, who agrees to wed an earlier suitor, Shyam (Sanjay Asrani). Person who happens to be the brother of Pooja's mother wants to kill Surya for cheating his sister but ends up being arrested by police. Second half shifts to Cruise ship, where Chandramohan finds out that Pooja is actually his daughter. The film ends with Surya and Priya reuniting.

Palayam Murukan (Manoj K. Jayan) is the underworld goonda leader ruling Palayam market in Kozhikode City. The movie speaks about the life of Madhavankutty (Mammootty), locally known as "Hitler" due to his tough character, domineering personality and his uncontrolled rage at the youngsters of the area, for stalking his five young sisters. Even though he loves his family more than anything in this world, he fails to express his love. He had been looking after the family since the death of their mother. Their father Pillechan (Innocent) is married again with two daughters and his children from the first marriage do not even speak with him (Madhavankutty's uncle Gangadhara Menon is responsible for the separation between the children and Pillechan, which is revealed in a later part of the story). Madhavankutty's marriage was fixed with his cousin Gauri (Shobhana) and his sister Ammu’s (Vani Viswanath) marriage with Gauri's brother Balachandran (Mukesh). Once in Madhavankutty's absence, Balachandran sneaked in to his house to be with Ammu, but get caught which results in hostility between the two families and Madhavankutty opposes any of the decided marriages to happen between the families. Balachandran on the other hand wants to make them happen.

Meledathu Raghavan Nair is the only support of a big family that includes his mother, wife Malathi, brother Vijayakumaran Nair, sister Sudha, uncle Kunjammama and his daughter Nalini. After Raghavan Nair’s father’s death the whole responsibility of the family came upon Raghavan Nair. His father had left with them huge amount of debts which then reached a stage of attachment from court. At that critical juncture it was Nair’s uncle Kunjammama who helped them repay the debts by selling his property out of love for Nair’s father and his family. Nair’s brother Vijayakumaran Nair is studying for LLB. Raghavan Nair has contributed his health and wealth in an insurmountable amount in favour of his brother Vijayakumaran Nair only to see him as an advocate. After Vijayakumaran Nair became an advocate he gets a marriage proposal of a senior advocate’s (under whom he practises) daughter. The marriage takes place contrary to the understanding that it is Nalini (daughter of Kunjammama) who is to marry him. However before the marriage, regarding this matter there was a small clash between him and his brother Raghavan Nair. Since Raghavan Nair felt that he was not being loyal to Kunjammama’s daughter Nalini who were to marry Vijayakumaran Nair, he arranges a marriage for her before his brother’s marriage. After the marriage Vijayakumaran Nair’s wife Sobha tries to dominate the house in each and every matter. There occurs small clashes between her and the family members. Later a marriage proposal for the brother’s only sister Sudha arrives for which the bridegroom’s family demand large amount of money and gold. In order to meet this Raghavan Nair had to ask the help of his brother who in turn turns for the same to his wife Sobha. Sobha says that she will give the money on the condition that it will be returned and in the family she will be respected. One day when the family sit together for meal Raghavan Nair comes in between straight from the fields to dine with them. This irritates Sobha and she tells that it is unhygienic and she cannot stand it. This in turn infuriates Nalini who sees her elder brother insulted. Sobha who takes Nalini’s stand in the situation as threatening tries to evade from her earlier stand to give money for Nalini’s marriage. However she is ready to help them if only the entire family is ready to bow before her. This Raghavan Nair sees as an insult to the entire family. He then decides to make the entire money by himself. In order to do so he pawns his share of the family wealth and finds money for the marriage. Meanwhile another egoistic encounter of Sobha with Kunjammama forces him to leave the family. When Raghavan Nair also felt that his stay with his brother would only destroy the entire family, he also leaves the family to a new place, find some land and starts farming. After his brother left Vijayakumaran who is now alienated in the home feels estranged completely. He then meets his father in law (the advocate) who tells him that it was his mistake that he could not control his wife which led to all this. Vijayakumaran Nair then confronts his wife reasons her and slaps her. He then goes to his brother who now stays in a new place and asks him to come back. But Raghavan Nair rejects his brothers request with love and tells him that he is always with him and will come back to home whenever he feels like he should meet his brother. The movie ends with Raghavan Nair cherishing his love for his brother.

A group of college girls come in a light blue matador to Chola Picnic Village.They take a room in a hotel at that Picnic Spot. The film opens into the life of Ammaiyappan Mudaliar (Visu), an ordinary middle-class man who makes a simple living as a Central Government clerk. His family, a typical South Indian joint family, includes his dutiful wife Godavari, his oldest son Chidambaram (Raghuvaran), a junior officer at Indian Oil, and his wife Uma (Lakshmi), his second son Siva (Chandrasekhar), a factory worker, his youngest son Bharathi (a never do good fellow who has failed his high school exams twice) and his daughter Sarojini (Ilavarasi). The modest income from his government job barely provides for his family's needs. His sons contribute some amounts in proportion to their incomes. The family gets by, but Ammaiyappan worries for the future. Siva and Sarojini are not yet married, and Bharathi has a bleak future if he does not graduate high school. Sarojini is a particular worry; her beauty and charm are matched by her arrogance and contempt. She summarily rejects any marriage proposal, and her obstinate demeanor causes great concern to Ammaiyappan. Ammaiyappan nonetheless plows on through life hoping for solutions to his difficulties.
