Jeffrey C. "J. C." Chandor (born November 24, 1973) is an American screenwriter and director, best known for directing the film Margin Call released in 2011. Chandor grew up in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards Township, New Jersey. After graduating in 1992 from Ridge High School in Bernards Township, he received his bachelor's degree in 1996 from The College of Wooster. During the 15 years leading up to Margin Call, Chandor directed commercials.
Margin Call was the first feature-length film from Chandor. The film premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The film also played In Competition at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Bear. On January 24, 2012, Chandor was nominated for an Academy Award for Margin Call in the Best Original Screenplay category.
His film All Is Lost was screened Out of Competition at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. It has been announced that Chandor will direct A Most Violent Year for release in 2015.

Junior risk analyst Seth Bregman (Penn Badgley), his more senior colleague Peter Sullivan (Zachary Quinto), and trading desk head Will Emerson (Paul Bettany) watch as human resources staff of their (never-named) firm, along with building security, conduct an unannounced mass layoff right on their trading floor, at the start of an otherwise normal business day. One of the fired employees is Peter and Seth's boss, Eric Dale (Stanley Tucci), head of risk management on the floor. Dale attempts to tell his now former employer that the firm should look into what he has been working on, but the contracted human resources staff have no interest other than him quickly leaving the building.
