Marjorie Rambeau (July 15, 1889 – July 6, 1970) was an American film and stage actress.

Biography

Marjorie Rambeau débute au théâtre dans les années 1910 et joue notamment à Broadway, entre 1914 et 1926. Au cinéma, elle enchaîne sept films muets sortis en 1917, puis n'en tourne que trois autres avant l'avènement du parlant. Elle apparaît ensuite dans 53 films, entre 1930 et 1957, dont quatre aux côtés de Joan Crawford. Pour la télévision, elle participe à deux séries dédiées au théâtre, en 1953, 1955 et 1956.

Elle fut nommée 2 fois pour l'Oscar de la meilleure actrice dans un second rôle : pour Primrose Path en 1941 et pour La Madone gitane en 1953.

Pour sa contribution au cinéma, une étoile lui est dédiée sur le Walk of Fame d'Hollywood Boulevard.

The film opens in Virginia in 1865, shortly after General Lee's surrender at Battle of Appomattox Court House. A war correspondent Jim Steed exchanges comments with Count Von Bohlen, an arrogant Prussian army officer serving as a military attaché during the American Civil War. A year later Steed is in Vienna shortly before the outbreak of the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. There he encounters a famous dancer, Anna Marie, who he persuades to spy for him on Von Bohlen, now a member of the Prussian General staff, who has become infatuated with her. However the secret plans which they manage to pass on to the Austrians are unable to prevent the decisive Prussian victory.
