Rajat Kapoor (Hindi: रजत कपूर) is an Indian actor, writer and director born in 1961.
Kapoor was born in Delhi, India. As a teenager he would watch films with his family and decided to become a filmmaker at the age of 14. He mainly focused on acting at first. In 1983 he joined the theatre group Chingari in Delhi, later moving to Pune to attend the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).
Kapoor started out in Parallel Cinema making his debut in the 1989 Kumar Shahani film Khayal Gatha. When he had trouble finding acting jobs in the 1990s, Kapoor began writing and directing shorts. He made his full length directorial debut with Private Detective: Two Plus Two Plus One (1997), which had Irrfan Khan and Naseeruddin Shah in minor roles. In 2001, Kapoor got his big mainstream break in Dil Chahta Hai, which starred Aamir Khan, as uncle of Preity Zinta's character. He received international attention in Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding in which he played an abusive uncle. Since then, he has written, directed and appeared in many critically acclaimed films including Corporate, Bheja Fry, and also as Muhammad Ali Jinnah in a UK television film The Last Days of the Raj in 2007. In 2003, he wrote and directed the independent film Raghu Romeo which he financed by sending e-mail requests for money to his friends. Although it was not a box office success, the film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi. Kapoor then directed and starred in Mixed Doubles, a film that deals with Swinging in contemporary Mumbai. He was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor for Siddharth: The Prisoner at the 2008 Asia Pacific Screen Awards. In the year 2010, he has also starred in a Bengali movie Iti Mrinalini opposite Konkona Sen directed by acclaimed Bengali film writer Aparna Sen. Kapoor frequently collaborates with actors Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey.
He is also a three time National Award winner, first for his 26-minute non-feature documentary, Tarana, then for his short, Hypnothesis, and after that for Raghu Romeo in Best Feature Film in Hindi section.
He hosts the tri-weekly chat show Lounge telecasted by NDTV Good Times.
He also worked in Rishtey (TV series) which was aired on Zee TV during 1999–2001 like 'Milan'(one of the episode).
He also played some roles in Kabhie Kabhie (2003 TV series) like Agnipariksha, Vansh and Amar Prem which was telecast on zee tv itself.

Rahul, a creative and sensitive individual, arrives at a lonely hill station in Sikkim to help build a new holiday resort. The friendship between the two couples, Rahul and Nandita and Amit and Preeti, paves the way for a deeper bond between Rahul and Preeti. Towards the end of the movie, this "anuranan" between the two is misunderstood by society, including Amit. This misunderstanding intensifies when Rahul suddenly dies, leaving Nandita lonely. Sunil Arora and his wife Malti with their son Avi lead a typical middleclass life in Mumbai metro. Having completed 10 years of marriage, Sunil feels he is getting old and is not able to satisfy his wife's advances in bedroom. Sammy (Saurabh Shukla) and Vinay (Vinay Pathak) are Sunil's colleagues in his office and they share their domestic issues as a pastime. Things take a turn when a friend of Sunil's returns from USA and mentions about Swinging and how it has kept him visibly younger. After this Sunil gets obsessed with the concept and starts planning to "swing". Malti is upset with Sunil's obsession and does not give into his new found love. Still, Sunil starts connecting to possible swingers by responding to magazine ads and finally gets hold of Mr. Vinod Khanna and they agree to meet once to get everybody's consensus.

Sultana (Sadiya Siddiqui), a small town prostitute and her pimp Khudabaksh migrate to the metropolis bringing with them their dreams and meagre belongings.
