Sebastian Schipper, né le 8 mai 1968 à Hanovre, est un acteur et réalisateur allemand.

Biography

Après des études d'acteur à l'école Otto-Falkenberg à Munich (1992-1995), à côté de son engagement dans le Kammerspiele (Munich), il joue des rôles mineurs, comme dans Kleine Haie (1992), Le Patient anglais (1996), Winter Schläfler (1997) , England! (2000), Die Nacht singt ihre Lieder (2004). Dans le film Ludwig II., il joue Louis II pendant la dernière année de sa vie.

Son premier film en tant que réalisateur est Absolute Giganten qui sort en 1999 et reçoit le Prix du film allemand en argent. Son deuxième film, Un ami à moi (Ein Freund von mir), avec Jürgen Vogel, Daniel Brühl et Sabine Timoteo, sort en 2006 dans les salles de cinéma. Son troisième film, Vers la fin de l'été (Mitte Ende August), se déroule dans une maison d'été entre Berlin et Hambourg. Son quatrième long-métrage Victoria sort en 2015 et reçoit un bon accueil tant auprès du public que chez les critiques. Il remporte six récompenses à la 65e cérémonie du Prix du film allemand, dont celui de meilleure réalisation.

In the film Karl, a high-flying car insurance executive, is assigned menial work at a car rental agency by his boss Fernandez (Peter Kurth), ostensibly to do research but really to try and get a reaction out of Karl due to his depressive nature. There he meets Hans who is the complete opposite of him. Karl initially does not want anything to do with Hans due to his hyperactive nature and Karl's introverted lifestyle. He also does not want to get involved with Hans as Karl's time at the car rental agency is based on a lie. The two finally kick it off with Hans' perseverance to discover their common interest in fast cars which they are able to drive due to their job. Karl's lifestyle and depressive nature soon changes after he meets Hans' girlfriend Stelle (Sabine Timoteo), and they establish a kind of ménage à trois. Karl emerges from his shell thanks to Hans and the friendship they create based on fast cars and their love for Stelle.

Victoria is a Spanish girl who moved to Berlin three months ago, works in a cafe for a meager wage, does not speak German and does not know anybody in the new city. Leaving a club at around 4 o'clock in the morning after a night of dancing and drinking, she meets four young men who are denied entry to the club. They are "Sonne" (sun), "Boxer", "Blinker" (turn signal), and "Fuss" (foot). The men invite her to take a walk through the city and she agrees.
