Sagar Mukherjee(Prosenjit) is a tea taster in profession. He lives beside the house of Shipra(Rituparna Sengupta), his neighbour. Prasad Halder is the boss of Sagar’s company and her also lives beside them. Sagar and Shipra fall in love and go for registrary marriage without informing Shipra’s parents. Prasad(Robi Ghosh) helps them. Shipra starts living with Sagar. Shipra’s father does not accept this relationship. Shipra becomes pregnant. She has to be admitted in a hospital. There she meets with Krishna(Satabdi Roy) who is also pregnant. Shipra and Krishna give birth to girls on the same day, but suddenly fire catches in the hospital,and the girls are exchanged. Only the doctor and the nurse knows this. Shipra and Sagar’s daughter Maya(Srabanti Chatterjee), Nirmal and Krishna’s daughter Trishna grows up. One day Shipra dies due to cardiac failure. So, taking Maya, Sagar shifts to a tea-garden. There he meets Nirmal and Krishna with their son Kushal(Soham Chakraborty) and daughter Trishna. One day it is revealed that Trishna has a heart problem. The nurse accidentally comes to know about the Krishna’s present status in the city and her girl’s problem. In a major operation Trishna dies. The nurse reveals the incident of exchange of the babies to Krishna. Krishna and Nirmal came to know about Maya’s origin, but Sagar does not want to handover Maya to them. By law, Nirmal and Krishna get the charge of Maya. But Maya doesnot want to live with them. Sagar(Prosenjit) breaks down. Kushal does not want to recognise Maya as his sister. Maya runs away with Kushal and unites with her father sagar. Krishna and Nirmal accept it.

Remake of Tamil movie Ninaikkaadha Naalillai. Debdutta and Arun are inseparable childhood peers who maintain an excellent bonhomie as adults. While Arun becomes a cop, Deb joins a refrigerator company as a senior executive. Meanwhile Deb falls in love with Kabita. While Deb and Kabita plan to marry, Kabita recommends her closest friend’s name (Kajol) as a partner for Arun. Debdutta goes to Arun and lays out the plan and the duo hope to marry together, in the same day. But things go awry when Arun hurts himself while defusing a car bomb. He burns so badly that doctors abandon all hope. Succumbing to injuries, a dying Arun requests Deb to bring Kajol for a final instance. Deb goes to fetch Kajol, but her uncle Binod bashes up Deb because he has diverse plans of marrying Kajol to a Dubaian tycoon. Deb gets back to the hospital unscathed, shivering in despair. Meanwhile Kabita arrives at the venue. Deb requests and prays Kabita to act as Kajol only for a solitary instance, as the last wish of a dying man (Arun had never seen Kajol). But after experiencing Kabita as Kajol, Arun miraculously returns to life from the jaws of death. Kabita gets tragically stamped as Kajol and Deb sacrifices his love for the sake of his peer. Deb searches out Kajol, but she gets stabbed to death by Binod. Abandoning all hope Deb advises Kabita to marry Arun and remain Kajol for her forthcoming life. A dumbstruck Kabita prepares to sacrifice everything. But on the day of marriage Arun reveals that he knows every move of the sacrificing couple and ultimately the estranged and tested lovers re-unite.

It is the story of a music lover named Kishore (Prosenjit Chatterjee), he belonged to a poor family. He wanted to learn music from a person named Shankar Maharaj (Soumitra Chatterjee), who stopped teaching music because his students ditched him after learning music and violated his instructions. His daughter Ontora (Rituparna Sengupta) helped Kishore to learn music by employing him as a maid in their house. They fell in love with each other. When Shankar Maharaj, came to know about the fact, he asked Kishore to break this relation as a token of his teaching. After sometime, the student who violated the instruction of Shankar Maharaj released an audio cassette & she hired Kishore as the music teacher. In the felicitation ceremony Shankar Maharaj was terribly humiliated a girl student, that he can't sing & knows nothing about songs. To prove her wrong, he started singing but fell ill in the midst of the song. Then Kishore came & completed the song & gave his required token as a teacher. Kishore & Shankar Maharaj's son become united again.

Sanjay(Abhishek Chatterjee), Mala(Rozina) and Amar(Prosenjit Chatterjee) are siblings who live in a village with their father, Master. Mala's marrieage was fixed with Arun(Chiranjit Chakraborty). Sashi Shekhar, the wicked zamindar always tried to use force upon the villagers. Once Master slaps Sashi in fornt of the entire village after which Sashi promises to take revenge. One night Sashi, with some goons attacks Master's house, murders him and sets the house on fire. Luckily the three children escape. While the children were escaping on train, Amar(Prosenjit Chatterjee) gets separated from the other two. Kajal, a nurse, finds Mala and Sanjay and takes care of them while Amar is adopted by a drunk garage mechanic, Mantu who renames Amar(Prosenjit Chatterjee) as Raja(Prosenjit Chatterjee). When they grow up Mala becomes a nure while Raja becomes a mechanic. Once Raja also saves Mala from some goons, but the two don't recognise each other. Sanjay falls in love with Mita, Sashi Shekhar's daughter while Mala is in love with Arun, not knowing that the two were indeed supposed to get married. Sashi Shekhar once again plots to separate Sanjay from Mala by trying to bring Sanjay under his influence and is successful in creating a rift between brother and sister. But in the process, Mala and Raja(Prosenjit Chatterjee) recognize Sashi babu and in turn their own relation. Ultimately Amar(Prosenjit Chatterjee) Mala, Sanjay and Arun fight jointly to overpower Sashi babu.

Rajnarayan Babu(Rajjak) has two sons and one daughter. They are Tuhin(Pijush Ganguly) Tushar (Prosenjit Chatterjee) and Khushi(Sreelekha Mitra). Tuhin's wife is Hena and Khushi's husband is Amit. After all this Rajnarayan decides to take up a part-time job. Tuhin's wife insults him and his wife. She also starts conspiring with his mother. Rajnarayan's wife has a cerebral attack and becomes a paraplegic.Tushar and his father take care of her. Rajnarayan again asks his elder son to return all the money. His son asks him to come to his office. When he goes there he is insulted by an employee. Rajnarayan Babu searches frantically for a job but does not succeed. Rajnarayan starts pulling carts. Tushar has a quarrel with his brother over this. Rajnarayan's wife soon passes away. Finally Tuhin realises his fault and teaches his wife a good lesson.

The movie begins with a marriage scene in which the bridegroom disagrees to marry due to non-payment of dowry by the bride`s father. In spite of his brother's request, he remains stubborn. He even throws away the garland. Raja(Prosenjit Chatterjee) comes to the scene and tries to convince the bridegroom to marry. A challenge for test of brotherhood befalls Raja calls his two brothers Rana (Lokesh) and Rakesh(Abhishek Chatterjee) and orders them to drink poison. They gladly do so. It is revealed that the water in the glass contained honey instead of poison. The groom apologises and agrees to marry. All three brothers are worried about their only sister-Pooja's (Moumita) marriage and life. But Pooja convinces them to marry. All of them visit Anjali`s house and the marriage is settled. Nahim Ghoshal (Dulal Lahiri) buys a crown for goddess Lali made of pure gold which he wishes to offer for the god. He is stopped by Rakesh and a crash takes place. Mahim Ghoshal is insulted and agrees to take revenge. Raja later drives to Mahim's house for apology on behalf of his brother. Ghosal cleverly places a proposal of marriage between his son and Pooja. Raja ignorantly agrees; as a dowry Mahim Ghosal makes Raja transfer all his property in the name of Pooja, there by making them beggars. The film advances with the display of repeated insults and plans by Mahim Ghosal towards Raja's family as revenge. He even plots to create mental tension among the family members of Raja's family. But strong bondage and dedication among the three brothers prevents the fury. On the other hand, Mahim Ghosal and his son torture Pooja brutally, but keeping Pooja`s future in mind, Raja forgives them repeatedly. Pooja is expecting a baby but her husband even tries to destroy it. There is a clash and Raja, Rana and Rakesh carry Pooja to the hospital. Pooja has a boy. Mahim Ghosal and his son apologises at the hospital. They are forgiven and they live together ever after. The title Kartavya is suitable as it reflects the duty of a brother towards his sister.
