Maalamaal is a 1988 comedy film starring Naseeruddin Shah and Satish Shah, directed by Kewal Sharma.
Although it was not officially acknowledged the film is based on the 1902 novel Brewster's Millions by George Barr McCutcheon. At least six films have earlier also been made based on the novel, besides a Broadway play.
The film is also known for Sunil Gavaskar, the renowned cricketer, making a guest appearance in the film.
Synopsis
Raj, a small-time cricketer, discovers that his grandfather has left a property of 330 billion rupees for him. But the inheritance comes with a clause that it would be his only if he is able to spend 30 billions in 30 days. Raj, who has never seen so much money has no idea how to do that. But he goes about it with Govinda Sakharam Godbole, his friend by his side.Actors

General Dong (Amrish Puri) is an evil dictator of a kingdom called Dongrila. He has kidnapped dozens of school girls and plans to use them as suicide bombers to bomb populated areas in India. One of his hostages is Dolly (Firdaus Dadi) who is the daughter of Major Krishna Rao (Mukesh Khanna). Krishna Rao recruits the best Indian army officers Captain Ranvir (Naseeruddin Shah), Captain Aditya (Aditya Pancholi), Captain Javed (Javed Jaffrey), Captain Anju (Ekta Sohini) and former disgraced Major Dharam Singh (Dharmendra). Professional photographers Vinod Chopra(Naseeruddin Shah) and Sudhir Mishra (Ravi Baswani) open a photo studio in the prestigious Haji Ali area in Mumbai, and hope to make enough money to keep it running. After a disastrous start, they are given some work by the editor of "Khabardar", a publication that exposes the scandalous lives of the rich and the famous. They accept it and start working with the editor, Shobha Sen (Bhakti Barve), on a story exposing the dealings between an unscrupulous builder, Tarneja (Pankaj Kapoor), and corrupt Municipal Commissioner D'Mello (Satish Shah). During their investigation, they find out that another builder Ahuja (Om Puri) too is involved in this dealing.
