Manamagal (The Bride) is a 1951 Indian Tamil drama film, directed and produced by N. S. Krishnan. The film stars Padmini, Lalitha, S. V. Sahasranamam and T. S. Balaiah in lead roles. The film had musical score by C. R. Subbaraman. This film was based on a popular Malayalam play Suprabha by playwright Munshi Paramu Pillai. The film was dubbed into Telugu as Pelli Kuthuru.

A story of two rival kings, played by R. Balasubramaniam and T.E. Krishnamachari, Sivaji Ganesan is the son of the latter. He moves around the kingdom incognito fighting for people’s rights. During this time he meets and falls in love with a dancer (Padmini). The rival king’s daughter Lalitha is also in love with him... The wily advisor (Veerappa) of the other king tries to work out things in his favour and marry the dancer. After many twists and turns, the villains are exposed and the princess sacrifices her love in favour of the dancer.

Murthi (S. V. Sahasranamam) comes to a village. He deceives Meenakshi (M. S. Draupadi) and has sex with her. After going back to his home town he tries to marry Mohana (Vyjayanthimala), who loves Nathan (T. R, Ramachandran). Lakshmi discovers she is pregnant and goes to meet Murthi, who pretends ignorance. She jumps into the sea in a suicide attempt. A passerby saves her and she delivers the baby. She leaves the baby with Nathan. He takes care of the baby and faces a lot of problems. Learning about the baby, Mohana gets suspicious. Finally the actions of Murthi are exposed and he accepts Meenakshi as his wife.

Tough and ruthless Police Inspector Javert (Javar Seetharaman) recaptures a small time criminal Kandhan (Chittor V. Nagaiah) who has escaped from prison. Kandhan turns a new leaf with the help of a Christian Bishop (Serukulathur Sama). When he is released from prison he starts a glass making company. He changes his identity and becomes successful. He becomes the mayor of his town. Inspector Javert finds out about his new life and threatens to expose him. On one occasion Kandhan saves Javert's life. Javert commits suicide unable to turn Kandhan in to the authorities out of his sense of gratitude.

Thangam (T. R. Rajakumari) is married to a man old enough to be her father, Rajamanickam Mudaliar (D. Thuraisamy) who has two children from his deceased first wife. The daughter is Lakshmi (S. Balaiah) does his best to separate them. When Thangam’s child is born, ugly rumours are spread by Lakshmi that the father of the child is Selvam and the two had an incestuous relationship. Malathi believes the rumours and starts tormenting Thangam. How the young widow surmounts the problems forms the rest of the story.
