Now to my mind, it's an abomination to consider that any man, woman or child in this magnificent country of ours should have to look upon a loaf of bread as a luxury. We're going to dig water wells here, and water wells means irrigation. Irrigations means cultivation. We're going to raise crops here where before it simply wasn't possible. You're going to have more grain than you know what to do with! Bread'll be coming right out of your ears, ma'am. New roads, agriculture, employment, education: these are just a few of the things that we can offer you, and I assure you, ladies and gentlemen, that if we do find oil here—and I think there's a very great chance that we will—this community of yours will not only survive. It will flourish!

Paul: Why did Standard Oil buy up land?
Daniel: Is it in California?
Paul: Maybe.
Daniel: How much land they buy?
Paul: I'd like it better if you didn't think I was stupid.
Daniel: Why'd you come to me?
Paul: You just brought this well in.
Daniel: That's right.
Paul: Yes. So, just give me $500 in cash right now, and I'll tell you where it is.
Daniel: I'll tell what I'll do, son. I'll give you $100 now, and if it proves to be a promising lease, then I'll give you $1,000 hold.
Paul: Six hundred dollars.
Daniel: Just tell me one thing to help me decide: what else have you got up there? What do you grow?
Paul: We have a big ranch, but it's mostly rocks. We don't plant things. Nothing'll grow but weeds. What makes you think that it's up?
Fletcher Hamilton: Is there sulfur around by deposit?
Paul: Alcohol line nearby, but I don't know sulfur. [looks at H.W.] Is that your son?
Daniel: Yes.

Paul: [to Fletcher] Who're you?
Fletcher: I'm Fletcher Hamilton. Nice to meet you, son. What's your name?
Paul: What do you do?
Fletcher: I work for Mr. Plainview.
Daniel: Here's $500, son. Tell me something worth hearing, [holds up a stack of 5 $100 gold certificates] and this money's yours.
Paul: I come from a town called Little Boston in Isabella County.

Now my straw reaches across the room, [walks a few steps away with his arm over his head, indicating the length of the straw] and [he walks back to Eli and puts his hand, with his index finger pointing downward still representing the straw, right in his face] starts to drink your milkshake. I. Drink. Your! Milkshake! [makes a loud slurping noise] I DRINK IT UP!
Eli: Don't bully me, Daniel!
Daniel: [angrily grabs Eli and throws him to the floor] Did you think your song and dance and your superstition would help you, Eli?! I am the Third Revelation. I am whom the Lord has chosen. [throws bowling balls at Eli]
Eli: [dodging the bowling balls] Daniel!
Daniel: Because I'm smarter than you! I'm older!
Eli: I'm your old friend, Daniel! Help me! Help me, please!
Daniel: I'm not a false prophet, you sniveling boy! I am the Third Revelation! I am the Third Revelation! I told you I would eat you!
Eli: We're family!
Daniel: I told you I would eat you up!
