Karin Lesch (born 18 May 1935) is a Swiss-German stage, cinema, and television actress, of Swiss-Austrian extraction; who hails from a multi-generational family of accomplished German-speaking performers, of theatre and cinema.

Lesch was born in Zürich, the daughter of Swiss director, dramatist, and author Walter Lesch (1892–1958), and the Austrian actress Mathilde Danegger (1903–1988). In addition to the both of her parents having professional careers in the German-speaking dramatic arts, Lesch comes from a family of Austrian entertainers of music, stage, and cinema. On her maternal side, her grandfather was the Austrian character-actor and director Josef Danegger, Snr, and her maternal grandmother, Bertha Müller, was an Austrian actress of both stage and silent-film. Her uncle Josef Danneger, Jnr, (1889–1948) was an Austrian actor of stage and cinema, whilst her uncle Theodor Danegger (1891–1959) was both an opera singer and recording artist, in addition to being an actor of stage and cinema, having performed in both musicals and operettas, as well as purely dramatic rôles.

The film stars Libuše Šafránková as the title character, a young woman who is put upon by her stepmother and stepsister. The film employs a twist, though, when a handsome prince comes knocking. Cinderella does not simply fall into the prince's arms. In this version, he must actively pursue the young woman who is a skilled sharpshooter prone to wearing hunting outfits. Cinderella also has three wishes at her disposal, gained from three magic nuts.

After Hitler's rise to power in 1933, a group of regime opponents from various backgrounds consolidated under the leadership of Harro Schulze-Boysen and Arvid Harnack. They gather intelligence and pass it on to other countries. After the outbreak of the Second World War, and especially after the German invasion of the Soviet Union, they intensify their work. In August 1942, the Gestapo arrests Boysen and soon after cracks down on the spy ring.

Frieda Walkowiak is an ambitious director of a collective farm. Although she is talented and hard-working, the men in the commune are reluctant to accept her as their supervisor. August, Frieda's husband, is exasperated by his wife's devotion to her office, which leads to her being absent from home quite often. After she misses their wedding's anniversary, August is enraged, and leaves their house with their daughter. Frieda is badly depressed and suffers a breakdown. She is taken to a hospital. August hears of this, comes back to his senses and returns. The family reunites.
