Marudur Gopala Chakrapani (13 January 1911 – 17 August 1986), commonly known as M. G. Chakrapani or Yettan ("elder brother" in Malayalam), was an Indian actor based in the Tamil film industry. He was the elder brother of actor-politician M. G. Ramachandran.

Swaroop Singh (O. A. K. Thevar) won the respect and loyalty of the people of Senji during his rule where Hindus and Muslims lived in peace and prosperity. A son was born to Swaroop Singh and his wife Rambai (Rushyendramani), whom they named Tej Singh pronounced as Desingu (MGR) in Tamil. Swaroop Singh has a secret wife called Jaan Bibi (Lakshmiprabha), and they have a son called Dawood Khan (MGR) who was a little older than Desingu. Fearing that Dawood might pose a threat to the succession of the throne in years to come, on the advice of his commander and close confidant Yusuf Khan (T. K. Ramachandran), Swaroop Singh persuades Jaan Bibi to leave Senji, taking little Dawood with her. Desingu who has integrity and courage grows up with his childhood friend, another brave young man called Mohammed Khan (S. S. Rajendran), and two are always inseparable.

Sundharam Mudhaliyar M. G. Chakrapani is a wealthy man living with his daughter Kaveri (Rajasulochana) and Sahadevan lives with his wife Thanabakkiam (P. Kannamba) and daughter Sundhari (Jamuna). During a dance competition at the school function, Sundhari wins the first prize and Sundharam could not accept this as Sahadevan's family belongs to an inferior caste and indebted money from him. Sundharam magnifies this simple misunderstandings which results the death of Sahadevan. In order to cover this up, Sundharam disposes the body into the river and cooks up a story that Sahadevan had run away to avoid paying his debts. Sahadevan survives but suffers from amnesia. Sundharam grabs over Sahadevan's house and land as a compensation for his debts and Thanabakkiam and Sundhari had to leave to a smaller house in another village. There Thanabakkiam saves the life of Kanagasundharam or Kanagu (M. G. Ramachandran) from drowning in the river and thanked by Kanagu's father Loganayagam (D. Balasubramaniam) of the assistance rendered despite the difference in their caste. Kanagu and Sundhari becomes close friends and grow up to be lovers.

Ratnapuri is a small kingdom besieged by manifold troubles. The King’s only daughter Ratna (B. Saroja Devi) is kidnapped and the King dies without naming any successors. Marthandan (MGR), a member of the royal family is chosen by the majority of the imperial council, including the ministers and the commander-in-chief, to be the new ruler. However, the Rajaguru (P. S. Veerappa) has a different idea. Unknown to anyone, he has the princess Ratna in his custody in an island. Ratna has grown up completely unaware of her ancestry. Meanwhile, the Rajaguru plans to do get rid of Marthandan and put up his stooge Pingalan (M. N. Nambiar) as the King. He then plans to marry Ratna himself, get rid of Pingalan, and declare himself the ruler. Meanwhile, Veerabagu (K. R. Ramsingh), the loyal bodyguard of the erstwhile King, and his gang of committed people, including his son Bhoopathi and daughter Madana (P. Bhanumathi) are furious at an outsider ascending the throne. Elsewhere in the kingdom, people are far from happy. Shortage of food and unemployment are rampant all around.

General Nagavelan (P. S. Veerappa) plans to murder Prince Rajarajan (M. G. Ramachandran) in order to be the Chozha king. When Rajarajan is away for a hunting trip Nagevelan plots a false story to the Chozha people that the former is a womaniser and drunkard. The people believed that Rajarajan was dead in the jungle. Actually, Rajarajan was held captive and was being forced to signature by Nagavelan. Nagavelan's younger sister Priyamohini (Lalitha) who opposes her brother's deeds assists the wounded Rajarajan to escape. Udhayachandhran (M. N. Vijayapuram is a beautiful hillside hamlet appears serene and restful to a casual passerby. But the happenings there are far from tranquil.
