Synopsis
Le vieux Howard Eliot, homme riche, est si heureux auprès de sa jeune infirmière Annabelle Rose, que sur son lit de mort, il lui lègue une enveloppe avec la recommandation que celle-ci ne soit pas être ouverte avant soixante jours à partir de sa mort. Le reste de sa fortune est légué à son fils Arthur, à condition qu'il épouse qui il veut en dehors de son actuelle petite-amie, Verna Devore. Afin de répondre aux exigences paternelles, Arthur met une petite annonce pour trouver une épouse "temporaire". Annabelle, d'une grande pauvreté, répond à la petite annonce et accepte un mariage blanc avec Arthur. Une fois la cérémonie de mariage terminée, Arthur commence à apprécier la douceur d'Annabelle, comparée à la cupidité de Verna. Il réalise qu'il voudrait Annabelle pour plus qu'"épouse temporaire". Les soixante jours passés, Annabelle découvre que le vieillard lui a légué sa fortune, et Arthur qu'il a fait le bon choix.Actors

Karl Von Austreim (Jack Holt) lives in America with his German father and American mother. He notices a young lady, Angela More (Mary Pickford). As she is celebrating her birthday on the Fourth of July of 1914, she receives flowers from the French Count Jules De Destin (Raymond Hatton). They are interrupted by Karl, who also gives her a present. They soon battle for Angela's attention. To lose his competition, Count Jules arranges for Karl to be sent to Hamburg, where he will have to join his regiment. Angela is crushed when he announces he has to leave. The next day, Angela reads in the paper the Germans and French are at war and 10,000 Germans have been killed already.

After the Stock Market Crash of 1929, the Colt-Stratton family are forced to rent out their yacht to the nouveau riche at the behest of Nella Fitzgerald (Polly Moran), including gambler Barry Forbes (Sidney Blackmer) and his sidekick Freddy Finn (Sterling Holloway). When Freddy rigs the yacht's roulette wheel to respond to his saxophone, in order to raise money for Linda Colt-Stratton (Sidney Fox), who has caught the eye of the gambler, he is caught, but moments later Captain "Sunny Jim" Roberts (Ned Sparks) runs the yacht aground on the South Sea Island of Malakamokolu, run by Queen Malakamokalu (Mary Boland), a white woman, who takes the paasengers as forced labor. Tiring of them, she offers to release them if Barry stays to marry her. However, once she hears Freddy play his saxophone, she falls in love with him and plans to blow up the yacht with a bomb. Barry manages to rescue the passengers, but not the boat, and they accept their new home in the tropics.

Le film met en scène trois couples qui vont se croiser contre leur gré et dont les rencontres vont provoquer une série de catastrophes et de quiproquos. Le premier couple est formé des époux Whinney, la quarantaine, lui employé de banque, qui désire prendre 15 jours de vacances. Madame Whinney afin d'économiser sur le prix du voyage propose de prendre un autre couple en co-voiturage mais sans le dire à son mari. Le couple en question, Georges et Gracie est atypique, non marié, jeune, la fille simplette et extravagante, l'homme ronchon, et pour couronner le tout, ils sont accompagnés d'un énorme chien qui n'aime pas trop qu'on le contrarie. Fergusson, un collègue de Whinney trouve un stratagème afin que ce dernier emporte dans sa valise de l'argent qu'il a dérobé dans le coffre de la banque. Mais les excentricités de Gracie font que nos deux couples de vacanciers ont fait un détour improbable et ne se trouve pas à l’hôtel où ils devaient descendre et où le collègue devait récupérer les fonds. Finalement les deux couples après s'être fait détrousser de leur argent (mais pas de celui de la valise) et leurs bijoux par des bandits de grand chemins arrivent pour la nuit dans une petite ville de l’Ouest où nous découvrons le troisième couple, il s’agit du Shérif John Hoxley (W. C. Fields) et de son épouse qui gère l’hôtel. Sur place, Whinney télégraphie à la banque afin qu'on lui débloque des fonds pour payer leur nuit d'hôtel. La police qui le soupçonnait peut ainsi le localiser, mais également Fergusson. Après une série de quiproquos à répétition, Fergusson sera arrêté, Whinney blanchi, quant à Georges et Gracie ils retrouveront un autre couple de pigeons pour continuer leur route.
