Mariyadhai (Tamil: மரியாதை; English: Respect) is an Indian Tamil film that stars Vijayakanth, who performs two roles, while Meena plays the lead heroine. Meera Jasmine plays another heroine character while Ambika also plays a significant role. Directed by Vikraman, who earlier directed hits like Poove Unakkaga (1996) and Vanathai Pola (2000), the film released in 2009.
Synopsis
The story unfolds in a small village near Pollachi. Annamalai (senior Vijayakanth) leads a contended life with his wife Alamelu (Ambika), his daughter Sumathy (Ammu) and his son Pichai (junior Vijayakanth). A caring a loving father, he even allows his son to change his name from Pichai to Raja, when he is made fun of by his friends when he was very young.Actors

Vellaichaamy (Vijayakanth) thinks the world of his three brothers, even giving up marriage when he learns that the woman he loves plans to send them to a hostel after the wedding. The brothers live with their grandmother (S. N. Lakshmi). He works hard to raise them and they too reciprocate his love and affection. The eldest of the three, Muthu (Vijayakanth again), is a cook in a small hotel, When Vellachamy learns that Muthu is in love with his childhood playmate (Meena) he goes to the city to his friend (Rajiv) with the marriage proposal. Only to be insulted! Circumstances bring Muthu to the city, to the girl's palatial bungalow where he works as a cook. The girl is arrogant and rude till she realises that Muthu is her childhood pal. And now it is she who does all the wooing and persuades her father to get her married to Muthu.

Radha (Roja) is an illegitimate daughter who lives in her father's house as a maidservant with her step mother and father. The step mother's brother, Sanjay (Ajith Kumar) comes from Canada to visit Roja and her family. He said he likes her but needs at least 3 months to decide if she has the right qualities in a wife before he agrees to marry her. One day, two thieves Selvam (Karthik) and his friend steals a God statue from a temple and hide inside Radha's father's house while the elders are away. Radha finds them and lock them inside the house for 3 days. After 3 days, Radha gives Selvam some meaningful advice before he leaves. Selvam seems to have a liking of Radha and later he comes to know about Radha's story about her family and Sanjay. One day, her step mother throws her out of the house for accusing her of stealing her gold necklace and leaving a cigarette in a drawer. Selvam then finds a place for her in a hostel and makes many sacrifices in order to make her a famous singer.
