The film was a remake of 1983 Telugu film Dharmaatmudu starring Krishnam Raju and Jayasudha. The film was later remade in Kannada as Jeevana Chakra (1985) starring Vishnuvardhan and Raadhika Sarathkumar in main roles. It was a blockbuster and completed a 152-day run at the box office.
