Koldo and Clara are about to celebrate their wedding day. Hiver 1985. Un groupe d'enfants, composé de Koldo (Christian Casas), Peti (Roger Babià), Tito (Pau Poch), Eugenio (Daniel Casadellà) et Moni (Ivana Baquero), la seule fille du groupe, trouve une femme, habillée en Père Noël, piégée dans un trou dans les bois. Lorsqu'ils vont au poste de police pour donner l'alerte, ils découvrent que la femme est une dangereuse criminelle, Rebeca Expósito (Maru Valdivieso), ayant dérobé deux millions de pesetas et recherchée pour braquage de banque. Les enfants prennent la décision de ne pas la laisser sortir du trou tant qu'elle ne leur donnera pas son butin. Cependant, une fois qu'elle leur a donné l'argent, et par peur des représailles, ils ne libèrent pas leur prisonnière; après des jours de privation et d'emprisonnement dans la forêt, la voleuse meurt.

Dr. Owen (Jonathan Mellor), an official from the Ministry of Health, and a GEO team equipped with video cameras are sent into a quarantined apartment building to control the situation. After Martos, a GEO officer, is killed and infected encountering some of the infected, Owen uses religious mantra and rosary to hold him off in a room. Ángela Vidal (Manuela Velasco), and her cameraman, Pablo, are covering the night shift in one of Barcelona's local fire stations for the documentary television series While You're Sleeping. While they are recording, the firehouse receives a call about an old woman, Mrs. Izquierdo, who is trapped in her apartment and screaming. Ángela and Pablo accompany two of the firefighters, Álex and Manu, to the apartment building, where two police officers are waiting. As they approach the old woman, she becomes aggressive and attacks one of the officers, biting his neck.

The story takes place in 1851 and deals with a small Spanish village apparently plagued by what we would now call a serial killer, as corpses are discovered bearing both savage mutilation and precise surgical incisions. Eleven-year-old Niamh (Missy Keating) and her family live in an extremely small and isolated community in Ireland where her only contact with other people comes in the form of school and her neighbors Nat (Marcella Plunkett) and Lucas (Pádraic Delaney). She claims that their house is coming alive but when Nat and Lucas discover Niamh bruised and bloody, her parents say that Niamh herself is causing the destruction. Niamh is later discovered as the sole survivor of an extremely violent attack that killed everyone else in the house. She tells the police that the house is responsible for her parents' deaths and for her infant brother's suffocation in her arms, but the police attribute the massacre to vandals. Niamh's neighbors decide to take her in and try to help soothe her pain, but they soon find that whatever caused the problems in Niamh's old house are now beginning to present themselves in their home.
