Synopsis
Deux histoires complètement opposées vont, par la force des choses, être amenées à se croiser. D'un côté, il y a Simon Hirsch, représentant de commerce taciturne, qui cherche à tout prix à venger son seul ami, un inspecteur de police qui s'est fait tirer dessus au cours d'une enquête. Albert Dehousse has grown up on heroic novels, unfortunately his life isn't quite so exciting. Albert lives in a village in Northern France with his mother, who lives in memory of her husband, who she claims died a hero in the First World War. World War Two passes the pair by, as Albert is not called up as he is the only child of a war widow, denying him of his chance to become a hero. Having married the daughter of a member of the resistance, he leaves his family and his marriage for Paris where heroes are truly celebrated.

Intense young "tough" Thomas Seyr is a 28-year-old real estate broker involved in shady business deals. His business partners, Fabrice and Sami, spend much of their time ruthlessly chasing squatters and illegal immigrants out of the buildings they have procured and trying to work their way around government housing regulations. Thomas is born to this kind of work; his father, Robert, is also involved in dodgy enterprises and sometimes calls upon Thomas to beat up people who refuse to pay. Tom shows a protective and defensive attitude toward his father who doesn't always appreciate what his son does for him–so much so that when his father introduces his new girlfriend to Tom, Tom undermines her to her face, and insults her to his father, insisting she is an opportunistic "whore." Later, when he tries to enlist her help to watch over his father, she tells him they broke up due to Robert changing his attitude and she is aware of Tom's backstabbing because Robert told her. Robert by this time is in danger from a Russian gangster, Minskov (Anton Yakovlev) who scammed him out of 300,000 Euros and Tom is worried for his safety.

Sivadhasan (Antonythasan Jesuthasan), is a Tamil Tiger soldier during the last days of the bloody Sri Lankan Civil war. Married couple Anna (Gina Lollobrigida) and Marco (Jean-Louis Trintignant) run a hi-tech automated poultry farm, breeding boneless chickens. Unbeknownst to Anna, Marco is a serial killer, who lures prostitutes to motel rooms before stabbing them. The arrival of Anna's cousin Gabri (Ewa Aulin) further fragments the troubled marriage, as she and Marco begin an affair and conspire to run away together. However, Gabri is actually planning, with her husband Mondaini (Jean Sobieski), to kill Anna and frame Marco, as they have discovered Marco's secret. What Gabri and Mondaini do not know is that Marco's fixation is not with killing prostitutes, but simply hiring them to role-play murders, letting them go safely and handsomely paid. As such, when Anna's murder is discovered, the police focus their attention on Gabri, suspecting her of committing the murder out of sibling jealousy. Marco and Mondaini struggle at the farm, Marco falling into a machine used to grind chicken feed. Gabri and Mondaini are eventually arrested for Anna's murder, as the farm chickens feed on Marco's ground corpse.
