Tourné sur l'île de La Réunion à compter de mai 2011 (du 16 mai au 24 juin 2011), ce film historique traite de l'engagisme à la Réunion. Il a été diffusé le 12 septembre 2012 sur la chaîne Réunion 1, puis le 12 octobre 2013 sur France 3.
Synopsis
À la Réunion, après l’abolition de l’esclavage, les planteurs blancs, en mal de main-d’œuvre, se tournent vers l’Inde. Une traite légalisée va se mettre en place et, sous couvert d’un pseudo contrat de travail, les Indiens vont devenir les nouveaux esclaves des planteurs blancs. Mais en 1915, avec la mobilisation des populations noire et créole pour la guerre, la communauté indienne devient majoritaire sur le territoire et l’inquiétude naît chez les planteurs de canne à sucre. Dans ce contexte, un grand propriétaire offre à ces « Indiens engagés » la liberté de culte et des fonctions réservées aux Français . Les autres planteurs, soutenus par l’Église et le gouverneur, s’opposent à ces libéralités qu’ils jugent dangereuses. Pendant ce temps, les Indiens fomentent leur révolte.Actors

Alma et Suzanne, deux cousines qui ne se connaissent pas, viennent de recevoir en héritage une belle demeure familiale située sur une petite île, quelque part entre la France et l'Angleterre. In June 1940, as German troops are advancing on Paris, Odile, an attractive widow in her late thirties, joins the exodus from the city with her two children: 13-year-old Philippe and 7-year-old Cathy. Like many others, they are heading south in a long line of refugees escaping Paris by whatever means of transport possible. After fifty kilometers, a German planes bomb the choked road filled with civilians. Grégoire Guillaume Depardieu returns reluctantly to the countryside in order to oversee his mother's funeral. Being back in the small town where he was raised upsets him. He is not ready yet to accept the fact his mother died. While looking for some comfort and solace he meets a maid called Angèle Morgane Moré. He achieves to impress her by making up he was an important manager although he only has a minor position in a cosmetics company. After they've spent the night in a hotel he just leaves her but she cannot forget him, in particular because he was her first lover at all. Subsequently she follows him and even manages to get hired as the maid of one of his colleagues. Unfortunately she then has to realise that Grégoire is about to become the son-in-law of his boss. Angèle observes how he is going to marry another woman for other reasons than love.

On a Friday evening, just before closing time Alain Coste is in his office and gets ready to leave, Claire, his PA, manages to stall him a couple of minutes, he goes out and she steals his keys just before he comes back for his jacket. Claire calls Cécile Coste to report that Alain has left. Alain goes to see Georges Colinet, his physician who tells him that he has tennis elbow and must have an operation. Alain becomes very worried that this operation shall take his life despite all assurances to the contrary. Later on Alain goes to a park and he starts a series of will projects that he dictates in a pocket tape recorder that he carries around, the first will distributes his assets 50/50% to his wife and children, 98% of his company shall go to his children and the remaining 2% to Claire and some moneys that he has in a Swiss bank-account shall go to the Fund for Cancer Research.

Police Inspector Pascal Manise walks into a bar where he gets morphine from Freddy, a former dealer of Jacquillat, a drug lord. A phone call interrupts the conversation but it is very brief. Manise gives the drugs to his wife Agnès Manise, who has been addicted for 20 years but has never had to buy her own fixes because her husband provides her with them. Agnès tells Manise that her friend Cécile Coste has invited them to a party he does not want to go but concedes when she agrees to buy him a suit. In the meantime the police is looking for Bruno Le Roux, a former leftist revolutionary who has escaped from prison, this means that they have to tail Jeanne Rivet, a colleague of Agnès in the same high school where they work as teachers. In their search for Le Roux they also go to the house of Mme. Guiot, the mother of Jean-Jean, a former associate of Le Roux's, she tells them that he has gone to look for a job out of the city.
