Lord Datchett invites a French film star to stay as his house but pretends to be one of his employees while he tries to romance her with the help of his butler. When she discovers his subterfuge she decides to turn the tables on him.
Synopsis
Lord Datchett is a misogynist who persuades his friend not to get married. He believes women are vain, trivial and dull. He is irritated when French film star Colette Marly arrives in London and takes the table in a restaurant where he wanted to sit He is scathing of her claims in the newspaper that she is tired of publicity and of men pursuing her, believing it to be an attempt to get more attention. He predicts that if she were really left alone she would throw herself at the first man she met. After being challenged by a man at his club, Datchett decides to invite her to stay at his house, aiming to stage a "scientific experiment" and prove his theory right.Actors

« Monsieur Cognac », tel est le nom d'un caniche blanc devenu à Paris, au début des années 1960, une star de la télévision et de la publicité. Tout choyé qu’il est, il aime bien échapper un moment à sa maîtresse, la jeune Giselle Ponchon, en passant par un trou de la cave de la maison Ponchon. Il se promène alors la nuit sans souci dans les rues de la capitale. Dans une discothèque où se produit l'Américain Terry Williams avec sa bande, « Monsieur Cognac » déguste avec plaisir une petite tasse de la boisson alcoolisée qui porte son nom et qui était en fait réservée à l'un des musiciens. Mais ce qui a attiré notre caniche dans la discothèque, ce n’est pas le cognac mais surtout les jolies dames caniches qui font partie du spectacle. Entre Monsieur Cognac et Terry nait une telle amitié que tous les deux se lancent dans une longue tournée de cafés, au cours de laquelle le chien, rendu de couleur verdâtre à la suite d’un accident, se révèle comme un connaisseur confirmé ès boissons alcoolisées. Mais Terry va bientôt faire connaissance de Giselle, la propriétaire de Monsieur Cognac : le lendemain matin, en compagnie de son père et de la police, elle fait irruption dans l'appartement de Terry et veut faire arrêter ce dernier pour « dognapping ».

Upper class Mrs. Barrington (Jeanne de Casalis) takes in two child evacuees from London, including cocky teenager Ronald (George Cole), lodging them in a cottage she owns. However, it has already been let to annoyingly inquisitive Charles Dimble (Alastair Sim). To compound the confusion, Mrs. Barrington had also agreed to allow it to be converted into a military hospital. Spitfire pilot Flight Lieutenant Perry (John Mills) parachutes into the nearby loch and becomes the first patient, tended by Mrs. Barrington's pretty daughter Helen (Carla Lehmann). Mrs. Barrington moves Ronald to the main house, while Dimble and Perry remain in the cottage.

The movie centers on three flight crew members of a USAF Air Rescue Service HU-16 Albatross and various experiences in their collective pasts, told in flashback.
