A man revealed to be Jacques Saunière is being pursued by a mysterious hooded character known as Silas (Paul Bettany) through the Grand Gallery in the Louvre in Paris. Silas demands the location of the Priory's clef de voûte or "keystone." Under threat of death, Saunière finally confesses the keystone is kept in the sacristy of Church of Saint-Sulpice, "beneath the Rose." Silas thanks him, and then shoots him in the stomach. Meanwhile, American symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks), who is in Paris as a guest lecturer on symbols and the sacred feminine, is contacted by the French police, and summoned to the Louvre to view the crime scene. He discovers the dying Saunière has created an intricate display using black light ink and his own body and blood. Captain Bezu Fache (Jean Reno) asks him for his interpretation of the puzzling scene.

Gustav Klimt's life story unfolds in a series of disjointed sequences in the artist's mind as he lies dying of pneumonia in a Viennese hospital where he is visited by his friend, Egon Schiele (Nikolai Kinski). Themes within the film include Klimt's platonic friendship with Emilie Floege (Veronica Ferres). Much of the film is centred on Klimt's relationship with Lea de Castro (Saffron Burrows), a dancer to whom he is introduced by the film pioneer Georges Méliès.

Starting from childhood attempts at illustration, young Jerome pursues his true obsession to art school. Jerome enrolls in Strathmore, an urban college. À l'occasion de la préparation d'une exposition en hommage au peintre Victor Pellerin, disparu mystérieusement en 1990 après avoir détruit l'ensemble de son œuvre, la réalisatrice Sophie Deraspe tente d'en apprendre davantage sur le passé de ce personnage énigmatique et sur son éventuel présent. Cette quête l'amène à rencontrer ceux qui, à Montréal notamment, ont côtoyé de près Victor Pellerin (de son vrai nom Luc Gauthier) avant sa disparition. Le spectateur y apprend notamment que Pellerin est également poursuivi par la police pour avoir participé à un trafic de faux tableaux. On suit de près, tout au long du film, Eudor Belzile, initiateur de ce projet d'exposition, ingénieur de formation, artiste d'adoption, proche de la famille du « disparu » et qui semble en savoir plus que les autres sur le destin de Victor Pellerin. À la toute fin, l'équipe de tournage embarque d'ailleurs avec lui vers la Colombie, où Belzile vit à l'écart du monde, peut-être en compagnie de Pellerin.

Griet (Scarlett Johansson) is a shy girl living in the Dutch Republic in 1665. Her father, a Delftware painter, has recently gone blind, rendering him unable to work and putting his family in a precarious financial situation. To help matters, Griet is sent to work as a maid in the household of famed painter Johannes Vermeer (Colin Firth). Griet works hard, almost wordlessly, in the lowest position in a harsh hierarchy, doing her best despite spiteful treatment by one of Vermeer's children.
