Corey Antonio Hawkins (born October 22, 1988) is an American actor. He is best known for playing Dr. Dre in the 2015 biopic film, Straight Outta Compton.

Biography

Corey Hawkins est originaire de Washington, D.C.. Il y fréquente la Duke Ellington School of the Arts . Il part ensuite étudier à la Juilliard School de New York, où il fait partie de la division dramatique Group 40. Il y recevra le prestigieux prix John Houseman pour son excellence dans le théâtre classique. En parallèle à sa scolarité, il commence une carrière « Off-Broadway » et apparait dans de petits rôles à la télévision. Il décroche également un tout petit rôle dans le blockbuster de Marvel Studios, Iron Man 3 (2013), et croise des stars comme Liam Neeson et Julianne Moore dans Non-Stop d'Universal Pictures.

En 2013, Corey Hawkins fait ses débuts à Broadway en incarnant Tybalt dans une nouvelle adaptation de Roméo et Juliette de William Shakespeare, avec Orlando Bloom et Condola Rashad. En 2015, il rejoint la distribution de la série télévisée The Walking Dead. Il y incarne Heath, un personnage-clef des comics de Robert Kirkman. Il incarne ensuite le rappeur-producteur Dr. Dre dans le film biographique sur N.W.A, NWA : Straight Outta Compton, qui sort à l'été 2015.

Après être apparu dans 6 épisodes de The Walking Dead entre 2015 et 2016, il décroche le rôle principal de la série télévisée 24: Legacy, diffusée dès février 2017 sur Fox. Dans ce spin-off de 24 heures chrono, il incarne Eric Carter, un ex-ranger vivant en Virginie et découvrant que les membres de son ancienne unité d'élite sont assassinés les uns après les autres. Il sera ensuite à l'affiche d'une superproduction de Legendary Pictures, Kong: Skull Island, nouveau film mettant en scène King Kong. Il y retrouve Jason Mitchell, qui incarnait Eazy-E dans NWA: Straight Outta Compton.

In 1986, Eric "Eazy-E" Wright enters a crack-house to sell drugs, but, it is soon raided by the police, who gain entry into the house via a battering ram. Eazy escapes through the house's rear window. Later, Eazy goes to a club with Lorenzo "MC Ren" Patterson to see friends Andre "Dr. Dre" Young, O'Shea "Ice Cube" Jackson and Antoine "DJ Yella" Carraby, who perform the song "Gangsta Gangsta", while Eazy and Ren stand in the audience. After Dre leaves the club, he is arrested after breaking up a fight involving his brother, Tyree. Eazy bails him out the next day. The next morning, Dre talks to Eazy about investing money into a start-up record label, in order to record a track that Cube has written. Cube and Dre want rappers H.B.O.(Homeboys Only) to record the track. Eazy agrees to fund the project. After a conflict arises during the recording session, H.B.O. leaves and Dre convinces Eazy to perform the track. They record and release "Boyz-n-the-Hood". Jerry Heller approaches Eazy and asks if he can be their manager. The group accepts Heller's offer. While performing "Dopeman", they garner the attention of Bryan Turner, a producer at Priority Records, with which they sign. Afterwards, N.W.A commences recording their debut album, "Straight Outta Compton", with Heller. During one of the sessions, they are harassed by some police officers. Frustrated by the situation, Cube writes "Fuck tha Police".

An alcoholic air marshal named Bill Marks boards a Boeing 767 non-stop flight from New York City to London. He sits next to passenger Jen Summers with whom he engages in friendly conversations. After take-off, he receives a text message on his secure phone stating that someone will die every 20 minutes unless $150 million is transferred to a specific bank account. Marks breaks protocol and consults with Jack Hammond, the other air marshal, who concludes that the threat is not valid. Marks however consults the help of Summers and flight attendant Nancy to monitor the security cameras while texting the mysterious person in order to locate him. However, Hammond is texted by the unknown person who says that he knows what is in Hammond's briefcase. As Marks confronts Hammond in the rear lavatory, the latter is revealed to be smuggling cocaine in a brief-case. Hammond attacks Marks, who responds in self-defense and breaks Hammond's neck. This incident happens exactly at the 20-minute mark.
