Ranjana Deshmukh (1955 – March 3, 2000), famous on-screen as just Ranjana, was a popular Marathi actress who dominated the Marathi silver screen in the '70s and '80s. Like her aunt, noted Hindi actress Sandhya, she was introduced to the screen by V. Shantaram in Chandanachi Choli Ang Ang Jaali, directed by Kiran Shantaram in 1975. She then starred in the lead role in Shantaram's next film, Jhunj. Ranjana won the best actress award in 1980 from the state government for Are Sansar Sansar. She won the award again for Gup Chup Gup Chup in 1983. Her other key films include Sushila, Gondhalat Gondhal, Mumbaicha Faujdar, Bin Kamacha Navra, Khichdi, Chani, Jakhmi Vaghin, Bhujang and Ek Daav Bhutacha.

Ranjana made hit pairs at the box office with several noted Marathi film actors including Ashok Saraf, Avinash Masurekar, Shriram Lagoo, Kuldeep Pawar, Nilu Phule, Ravindra Mahajani, Raja Gosavi and others.

Pushpa and Gayatri are the daughters of an ex-army man, Veer Bahadur, now retired to his village. He fights against the atrocities inflicted by Nagoji, a man pretending to be a freedom fighter. Nagoji uses this as a way of fuelling wrong-doings in the village. When Veer Bahadur opposes Nagoji, he is killed. Bahadur’s daughters vow to avenge their father and save the village from Nagoji. They are helped by Nagoji's son, Santosh, who despises the evil ways of his father and more so when Nagoji attempts to molest Pushpa. Gayatri, Pushpa and Santosh together with the help of the villagers manage to bring an end to Nagoji’s wicked ways.

The plot revolves around a school master, portrayed by Dilip Prabhavalkar. He is a simple and honest teacher who is posted to teach in a school in a small village of rural India. Within a short time he runs into trouble with the village sarpanch (local chief) for having punished his son in class. More trouble soon follows when a dance troupe (or a tamasha) comes into the village.
