Ronnie Masterson (4 April 1926 – 10 February 2014) was an Irish actress.

Masterson was born in Dublin. She trained at the Abbey Theatre and first appeared on stage there in 1944. At the Abbey, she met and then married actor Ray McAnally in 1951, and they remained married until his death, although they resided in different homes; her husband with Irish actress Britta Smith. McAnally and Masterson had four children; Conor, Aonghus, Máire and Niamh.

They formed Old Quay Productions, which presented an assortment of plays such as Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Odd Couple and many others.

Masterson had also played in the Edinburgh International Festival and in many Dublin Theatre Festival productions. She has appeared on many series broadcast on RTE, BBC and ITV and toured extensively in the United States in her own one woman shows. She made her film debut in 1988, playing Bridie in The Dawning.

In November 2005, she was in the United States again, this time to take the lead role in The Sea Captain, a short film directed by her son, veteran television producer Conor McAnally.

Biography

Elle se lance dans une carrière d'actrice en se formant à l'Abbey Theatre de Dublin, où elle fait ses premiers pas sur scène en 1944 et rencontre son futur époux, Ray McAnally, avec qui elle se marie l'année suivante.

Ils fondent ensemble Old Quay Productions, qui présente de nombreuses pièces de théâtre, dont Qui a peur de Virginia Woolf ? et The Odd Couple. Par ailleurs, Ronnie se produit à l'occasion du Festival international d'Édimbourg, ainsi que dans plusieurs productions du Dublin Theatre Festival.

Ronnie Masterson joue son premier rôle au cinéma en 1988 dans le film The Dawning. Son rôle le plus marquant est celui de Grandma Sheehan dans Les cendres d'Angela, en 1999.

Elle s'éteint à Rush le 10 février 2014, âgée de 87 ans.

In 2010 an old man picks up a discarded note dropped by teenage vampire Eleanor Webb, who has taken to writing her life story but then throwing the individual pages to the wind. Realising what she is, the old man invites Eleanor to his house, and tells her that he is ready for death. Eleanor proceeds to kill him and consume his blood. Elsewhere, Eleanor's mother, Clara, is chased from the lap-dancing club where she has been working by Werner, a member of the vampiric Brethren, who demands to know where Eleanor is. Clara decapitates Werner, burns his body and leaves town with her daughter.

Angela's Ashes tells the story of Frank McCourt and his childhood after his family are forced to move from America back to Ireland because of financial difficulties and family problems derived from his father's alcoholism. The film chronicles young McCourt's life in Limerick, Ireland, during his childhood in the 1930s and 1940s, the difficulties that ensued, and finally Frank's way of earning enough money to return to the land of his dreams: America. Michael Legge was praised for his portrayal of the adolescent Frank. In particular, he was said to excel in his role as an innocent teenager growing up with typical coming of age rites involving sexuality, maturity and peer pressure in a Catholic Irish setting.

The film opens with Angus Barrie (Anthony Hopkins), an Irish Republican Army member, walking through hills, and coming to rest on a beach, where there is a little hut. Meanwhile, Nancy Gulliver (Rebecca Pidgeon) having just left school, burns all her books in happiness. It is her birthday, and her aunt (Jean Simmons) has invited over Harry (Hugh Grant), with whom she’s desperately in love, to tea.
