The film stars Rakesh Roshan, Rishi Kapoor, Pran, Ashok Kumar, Tina Munim, Ranjeet, Deven Verma, Hrithik Roshan, Keshto Mukherjee and Poonam Dhillon. Jeetendra has a guest appearance. The film's music is by the producer's brother Rajesh Roshan. The lyrics were written by Anand Bakshi.
The film is Rakesh Roshan's first attempt at production, going forward he produced and directed films. Rishi Kapoor and Jeetendra being off screen friends of his, he had a song put in to ensure the 3 get together on screen too as Jeetendra did not have a role in the film and is present only in the song.
Rakesh Roshan's son Hrithik Roshan, who was six years old at the time of filming, appears briefly in Aap Ke Deewane as the child-version of the character otherwise played by his father, sharing his tricycle with another child on a beach.

The Rai family consists of four: father, mother, Shanti, and two sons, Ajay and Vijay. While traveling on a ship, they run into a severe storm, which leads to the ship capsizing, and the family getting separated. While Ajay and his mother are together, Rai is separate, and so is Vijay. Wealthy Jagatnarain Khanna rescues Rai,takes him home, ensures that he is treated well, and makes him a business partner. Years later, the Rai sons have grown up. Ajay is a lowly motor mechanic working in Pinto's Garage, but has big dreams, and a dual life as a Casanova, who is a liar, a conman, who dreams of making it big with a wealthy woman named Sheetal Khanna. Then there is Vijay, who is now known as Vikram, who works for Sheetal Khanna, and hopes to marry her one day, but has an affair with a gorgeous woman named Mala. When Mala gets pregnant, Vikram refuses to marry her, and an argument ensues. Shortly thereafter Mala is killed, and Vikram is being blackmailed by a man named Prem, who claims he saw Vikram kill her. When Vikram and Prem find out that Sheetal may marry Ajay, they get together and plot against him - and Ajay's lies, and a dual life, make it easy for them to frame him.

Dr. Deepak lives with his wealthy father, a Thakur, in a small town in India. While the Thakur would like to get Deepak to marry a woman from an equally wealthy family, he has fallen in love with a poor woman named Asha, and would like to marry her. The Thakur is displeased, and asks Deepak to leave his house, never to return. A few months later, Thakur's employee, Girdhari, informs him that he has found an abandoned child by the river bank, and would like to adopt him. Initially the Thakur does not want anything to do with the child, but when he sees it for the first time, he decides to let Girdhari have his way. Years later, young Pratap has grown up under Girdhari and Thakur's care, and travels abroad to study in order to be a doctor. When he returns he decides to work with a chemical company. Pratap is perturbed by this doctor, who seems to know him very well, and wants him to leave his job at the chemical company, and start practicing medicine in the small town where they live. What Pratap does not know that this doctor is none other than his biological father, Deepak. What both don't know is what steps the Thakur will take when he finds out that Pratap is none other than his grandson.

Ravi Verma wins a legal battle against Sir Judah, his dead father's business partner. Popular musician Amrit Kumar Saxena usually performs on stage to entertain his fans. On one occasion he red-handily caught Bhagwat Singh alias B.K. stealing priceless jewelery but instead of reporting this to the police Amrit keep this to himself. B.K. then schemes with his girlfriend, Luska to frame Amrit for the stolen jewelery resulting in him getting sentence to jail for two years. But Amrit gets release within a year due to good conduct; it is here he thinks about closing in on B.K. and Luska resulting in a physical exercise which ends up leaving Luska dead. For fear of another arrest Amrit flee the scene only to end up boarding a train; here he gets to meet his childhood friend Vijay, his wife, Juhi and their son, Munna. Unfortunately the train meets in an accident resulting in the death of Juhi and Vijay. Amrit then reaches Munna to Juhi's residence to be introduced to her father, Mr. Sinha who recognizes him as his son-in-law, Vijay and refuses to part with him; while Amrit is apprehensive to stay he is convinced by the family's doctor that Mr. Sinha is a heart patient. It is then Amrit decides to stay on and help Mr. Sinha pull together his business; it is here Amrit starts to develop feelings for this family and Mr. Sinha decides to make him his heir to all his assets. Time passes and Amrit starts to fall in love with Juhi's sister, Reshmi only to be told that Juhi is still alive albeit with a blank memory. Juhi returns home with Dr. Joshi who is none other than Bhagwat Singh who wants to utilize this opportunity to not only expose Amrit's true reality to the Sinhas but to settle scores with Amrit for the death of his girlfriend.

Nisha (Smita Patil) is an orphaned child who has been adopted by her relatives and raised alongside her cousin, Indu (Tina Munim). As both cousins enter their 20s, Indu falls in love with the rich and good-looking Kabir (Rakesh Roshan). However, Kabir takes a liking to Nisha and to the dismay of Indu, marries Nisha, wanting an obedient and socially accepted wife molding to the traditional conservative norms as Nisha constrained to, compared to Indu, who was liberal and progressive in her views and behavior. After marriage, all seems well in the life of Nisha and Kabir and soon, Nisha becomes pregnant. Meanwhile, a happy Nisha is oblivious to Kabir's affairs and dalliance with several women, on the pretext of business trips.
