Dwando (English: The conflict) is a 2009 Bengali film. The film was directed by Suman Ghosh. According to Telegraph review, the film is inspired by Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Decalogue II. This was Suman Ghosh's second film after Podokkhep.

Synopsis

Sudipta is married for 10 years to Anik but the couple don't have any child and the marriage has turned cold. When Anik is away for an office trip, Sudipta gets attracted towards a young NRI Rana. Anik comes back and suspects something wrong.

The first Asian Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore, is still revered as an icon in India. On 24 March 2004, his Nobel medal was stolen from Shantiniketan in Bengal, where it was housed in his residence turned museum. Subsequently a nationwide furor started and a massive search operation was put in place to find the guilty. Ultimately the medal was not found and the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) dropped the case in 2010. With this in the backdrop "Nobel Chor" (The Nobel Thief is a fictional account of a poor farmer, Bhanu, who circumstantially gets involved in the theft. He decides to embark on a journey to the City of Joy – Kolkata – to return or sell the prize with a view to improve his own quality of life as well as that of his impoverished village.

Sisir Roy (Soumitra Chatterjee) is a 72-year-old man, long retired from a government office as Upper Division Clerk. His family consists of his son Prasanta (Bhaskar Banerjee) and daughter-in-law Mandira(Soma Chakrabarty). Sisir’s wife died many years ago. Everyday. Sisir goes to the park and interacts with different people. Over a period of time, five young people get acquainted with him – Ahana (Sohini Sarkar), a newly married girl, restless and immature, who repeatedly flees from her in-law’s place, much to the anxiety of people close to her. Her newly married husband Prasit (Gourab Chakrabarty) is quite baffled about her behaviour and is desperately on the lookout for a solution. Saswata (Koushik Sen) is a 35-year-old man who teaches Mathematics in a boy’s school. For the last eleven years, he has been entrusted to teach Calculus. Saswata has no thrill in life and is desperately in search of that. Sananda (Radhika Apte), a 30-year-old IT engineer, is a single mother of a 3-year old child. Sananda has a dreadful past, which keeps haunting her. Biswanath (Rahul) is a typist who sits on one side of the park, quite aware of that the number of customers is rapidly dwindling, as more and more people prefer electronic type using computers, but he does not have the means to buy a computer. Reena (Nina Chakrabarty) is a young girl, working at a petrol pump,who is struggling against an uncertain future and insecurity. All these five people are either going through or on the verge of a crisis in their lives. In midst of such a situation, Sisir’s son and daughter-in-law leave for Meerut. And now Sisir is left completely alone. Detached from his own kin, Sisir now reaches out to his extended family by involving himself more intimately with the four new people in his life. He touches upon their minds trying to change their thoughts, and in turn, their lives. But in the process, he puts his own life into a vortex of complexities.

This film shows that how the relationship between the mother & daughter goes when both of them got attracted to one man (Sunny). It shows the human psychology & crisis of recent days where a girl feels that her mother is physically more attractive than her. Kaberi is a famous actress of recent times. Indrajeet (Kaushik Sen), husband of Kaberi is a corporate man. Ritu is the daughter of Kaberi and Indrajeet. Ritu is doing her graduation in science. Ritu suffers from identity crisis due to her mother's stardom. In the meantime, Ritu falls in love with her classmate Sunny, who is a boy from a village. But later, Sunny becomes the boyfriend of Kaberi. When Kaberi gets to know about Ritu & Sunny's relationship, she accepted it gladly. One day Kaberi met Sunny in a restaurant. Sunny told Kaberi that he had a dream to become an actor. Kaberi was impressed with her would be son in law. Kaberi started helping Sunny so that he can become an actor in future. As time passed, Sunny & Kaberi both get to know each other more. Age difference between Ritu and Kaberi was not very high. Ritu started suspecting her mother as she thought that Kaberi was becoming involved with Sunny and then twists & turns started happening in their lives.

The movie in its entirety is shot in retrospect with the father, Anupam Chaudhury, being placed at the beginning of the movie to talk about his intense and sexual relationship with his daughter, Jhilmil's friend Maithrayee. The scene then switches to the event that Anupam was talking about as the scene involves Maithrayee getting intimate with Jhilmil's father, Anupam, in his bedroom and Maithrayee revealing that she came from a divorced family and that she has a strained relationship with her mother. As they get intimate, Maithrayee says that she is in love with him and begs him to love her back. Maithrayee also confronts Anupam about him being the ghost writer for his wife, Aaloklata's novels and poems and questions the reason behind choosing to do so. As the movie progresses, Maithrayee confesses that she presumed Anupam to be the cook of the household when she had made a move on him but continued to indulge even after she discovered that he's the father of her friend Jhilmil.

The film is set in Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose's home in Falta, West Bengal, masquerading as Uttarpara. It deals with the story of a girl Anandi and her family (including uncle, brother, parents and sister), lover (brother's friend Babua) and few neighbours.
