The film, which presents his early beginnings and the origin of the "Pistol" nickname, is set in Clemson, SC, where the elder Maravich served as head coach for Clemson Tigers men's basketball. The film is regarded as a family film that is listed by several Christian book and film clubs. The film was originally released on January 17, 1991 in theatres, on November 8, 2005 on DVD, and on November 11, 2013 on Blu-ray. The film was produced soon after Pete Maravich's 1988 death.
Synopsis
The film shows 5-foot-2-inch (1.57 m) Maravich's efforts to make the D. W. Daniel High School varsity team as an eighth grader as he deals with racially charged issues in the deep south of the 1950s. Press Maravich serves as his son's drill sergeant, motivator, coach and cheerleader.Actors

Coach Ken Carter takes over the head coaching job for the basketball team at his old high school Richmond, having played on the team himself and earning records. Carter quickly sees that the athletes are rude and disrespectful, and are in need of discipline. He hands the players individual contracts, instructing them to attend all of their classes, wear dress shirts and ties on game days, refer to everyone (players and coach alike) as "sir", and maintain a minimum 2.3 (C+) grade point average, among other requirements. Carter also asks the school staff for progress reports on the players' grades and attendance. He teaches them to play a disciplined brand of basketball.

The film chronicles Twyman's and Stokes's relationship from Stokes's rookie year in the NBA up until his death. Stokes and Twyman were teammates on the Rochester Royals during the 1950s (during which time the team located to Cincinnati). Stokes fell ill three days after the last game of the 1957-58 NBA season, in Minneapolis. Stokes drove to the basket, drew contact and fell to the floor, hit his head, and was knocked unconscious. He was revived with smelling salts, and he returned to the game.

Antoine (Kadeem Hardison) and Kenny Tyler (Marlon Wayans), two close brothers, are shown as children playing in a basketball game in the year 1986. Based on a true story, the movie is about a basketball player, Cory Weissman, who had a stroke in college. He scored 1000 points in high school and looked forward to success as a starting point guard. Basketball is his life but as a Freshman he has an AVM stroke paralyzing his left side. Cory has to cope with his disability and answer the question "why me?" Does everything happen for a reason or just fate? Despite the dire prognosis of his brain damage, the young athlete is optimistic of his recovery and return to basketball. Physical therapy is slow but with support of family, best friend, coach and teammates, Cory returns to Gettysburg College. Cory is allowed to dress and play in the last game his Senior year. To the joy of everyone, he scores one point and hence the title "1000 to 1". The young man and student found new meaning in his life both on and off the court.
