While traveling to Nome, Alaska, Roy Glenister (Gary Cooper) meets beautiful Helen Chester (Kay Johnson), who soon becomes his sweetheart. Scottie Dean, passager d'un baleinier, jette par-dessus bord le Capitaine Jim Blake après que celui-ci a attaqué sa femme Isobel.
