The story is set in 1482 Paris, France. Quasimodo is a deaf, half-blind, hunchbacked bell-ringer of the famous Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. His master Jehan, the evil brother of the saintly archdeacon Don Claudio, prevails upon the hunchback to kidnap the fair Esmeralda, a dancing gypsy girl (and the adopted daughter of Clopin, the king of the oppressed beggars of Paris' underworld). The dashing Captain Phoebus rescues Esmeralda from Quasimodo, while Jehan abandons him and flees. At first seeking a casual romance, Phoebus becomes entranced by Esmeralda, and takes her under his wing. Quasimodo is sentenced to be lashed in the public square. After being whipped, he begs for water. Esmeralda pities him, and brings him some.

Le sergent William Gray a des ennuis constamment au camp d'entraînement à cause de ses blagues. Bien qu'il ne pense pas gagner, Gray parie avec le sergent du mess qu'il sera invité à petit déjeuner par l'officier commandant le camp, le Général Dodge. Plus tard, Gray rencontre Peggy, la fille du général, et ils tombent amoureux l'un de l'autre. As described in a film magazine review, two children who want to become circus performers run away from home. The mother of the girl is ill and has been sent to the hospital, while the father of the boy is a junk dealer. The finally arrive at the circus of Colonel Simmonds (Richardson) and obtain employment. When Janet Magie (Love) falls from a horse, Simmonds learns that she is actually his daughter and through her is able to contact his wife, who had left him due to a misunderstanding. This results in a happy reunion.

As described in a film magazine, Polly Ann (Love) lives at the poor farm and dreams of one day becoming a lady. The poor farm directors assign her to work for Jud Simpkins (Lockney), keeper of the village tavern. She is coaxed away from the inn one night by a cheap actor after playing a small part with a wandering theatrical company, but is rescued by Howard Straightlane (Lee), who has left the city to live down his craving for drink. Howard becomes the village school teacher and Polly Ann one of his students. Finally, she is sent for by a sick relative, who is in the clutches of scheming relatives. Polly Ann nurses the relative back to health and then returns to the village. The reunion of the teacher and pupil follows and the two are made happy by the arrival of Howard's uncle, who give the two his blessing.

Hell's Hinges tells the story of a weak-willed minister, Rev. Bob Henley (played by Standing), who comes to a wild and debauched frontier town with his sister, Faith (played by Williams). The owner of the saloon, Silk Miller (played by Hollingsworth), and his accomplices sense trouble and encourage the local rowdies to disrupt the attempts to evangelize the community. Hard-bitten gunman Blaze Tracy (played by Hart), the most dangerous man around, is, however, won over by the sincerity of Faith. He intervenes to expel the rowdies from the newly built church.
