Mitsuko Baisho (倍賞 美津子, Baishō Mitsuko, born 22 November 1946 in Ibaraki Prefecture) is a Japanese actress, whose most internationally known work has been for director Shohei Imamura, from 1979 up to the director's final film in 2002. Baisho has also appeared in films of Akira Kurosawa. She won awards for best actress at the 10th Hochi Film Award for Love Letter and Ikiteru Uchi ga Hana nano yo Shindara Sore made yo to Sengen. She also won the award for best supporting actress at the 8th Hochi Film Award for The Geisha and at the 22nd Hochi Film Award for Tokyo Lullaby.

Biography

L'actrice, dont le travail le plus connu internationalement est celui réalisé avec Shōhei Imamura de 1979 jusqu'au dernier film de ce réalisateur, en 2002, est également apparue dans plusieurs films d'Akira Kurosawa.

Elle a gagné des prix de la meilleure actrice au dixième prix Hōchi de cinéma pour Love Letter et Ikiteru Uchi ga Hana nano yo Shindara Sore made yo to Sengen.. Elle a également remporté le prix de la meilleure actrice dans un second rôle au 8e prix Hōchi de cinéma pour The Geisha et au 22e prix Hōchi de cinéma pour Tokyo Lullaby .

Mitsuko Baishō est la sœur de l'actrice, chanteuse et seiyū Chieko Baishō.

Elle a été mariée avec le catcheur Antonio Inoki de 1971 à 1987.
