Sachi is the long-suffering wife of popular novelist Otani in post-World War II Japan. The story takes place in an alternate history in 1948–49, in an imaginary alternative Tokyo which has taken a different history and in which World War II never happened. The film begins six years after Kuryu Kohei was transferred to Ishigaki Island (in the TV series finale).
