Un Argentino en New York (international, English title: An Argentine in New York) is a 1998 Argentine film directed by Juan José Jusid and starring Guillermo Francella and Natalia Oreiro. It is the story of an Argentine adolescent girl who travels to New York, and decides to stay and live there. Her father makes the decision to go to New York, a place where he has never been, to meet his daughter and try to bring her back to Buenos Aires. During his journey he’ll discover that his daughter has grown, formed a music band and met an American man who she loves.

Synopsis

Un Argentino en New York tells us the story of Franco Ricci (Guillermo Francella) and his daughter Veronica (Natalia Oreiro). Franco is a porteño who is very sentimental, a musician, separated and with a couple of dreams. Veronica, a brave young girl, attractive and intelligent, who always obtains what she wants.

The film shows the encounters and romances of several characters who seek love counsel through the eponymous late-night radio talk-show, conducted by Octavio (Siro). Octavio sets up blind dates among the characters, mainly advising Sarah (Pecoraro), a thirty-something loner who is hooked up with Fernandez (Martínez), a shy, introverted man who still lives with his father. Their relationship is chronicled through a series of episodes, involving Martínez' affair with a spiritist (Schultz), Sarah's entanglement with a psychopath and a subplot involving Sarah's strong-willed but ultimately broken and suicidal friend, Tina (Brando).

In 1935, de la Torre initiated an investigation on the meat trade, which had been previously attempted without success by his fellow party member Julio Noble. In the midst of the investigation, de la Torre's disciple and friend, senator elect Enzo Bordabehere, was murdered, and the province of Santa Fe was intervened. The film chronicles de la Torre's and Bordavere's investigation, as well as the grooming of de la Torre's would-be assassin, Valdez Cora, by corrupt members of the senate, most notably the pro-Nazist Don Alberto.
