Synopsis
Clark and Summer, a young married couple, are on their way to see Summer's parents. Their car has a blowout and, as they do not have a spare tire, the couple decides to walk onwards and find help. Upon arriving at a small collection of buildings, they realise that the town is abandoned. It isn't long before a drifter in a cowboy hat comes along. The stranger introduces himself as Joseph, and immediately overshadows Clark with his personality and style. That evening, around a campfire, the three talk: Summer shows Joseph a photo of her older son, Ben, who is Clark's stepson, while Joseph talks about how unlike Clark - who is a slave to society — he is himself, being beholden to no one but God. Jennifer Hills (Sarah Butler) goes to a cabin in the woods to write her second novel. Lost, she pulls into a gas station where there are three men loitering. They make small talk until she accidentally hits the panic button on her car, causing employee Johnny (Jeff Branson) to stumble backward into a bucket of water. Jennifer finds the cabin. Later, Matthew (Chad Lindberg), who has a social interaction disability, is contracted to fix the cabin's bathroom sink and toilet, which he successfully does. Jennifer abruptly kisses him on the cheek in gratitude, stating that he saved her from having to bathe in the swampy lake. He later boasts to the three men, revealed to be brash, reckless, and sadistic (when we see them again they are beating a fish with a bat), that "she likes me".

College student Shae (Danielle Panabaker) blows off going to a party with her friend Karen (Reyna de Courcy) to go to The Hamptons for the weekend with her boyfriend Terry (Andrew Howard), an older man who is separated from his wife. The film opens with a detective informing Jill (Caitlyn Folley) that her boyfriend Adam (Ian Duncan) is dead and that two others are missing. The movie then cuts to Adam shooting film of Jill with the intention of turning it into a movie about her and her paintings. He jokingly asks to film a sex tape and despite Jill initially declining, he then films the two of them trying to have sex in various locations. During a drive home Adam points out The Vergerus Institute for Troubled Women, an abandoned hospital rumored to have given various women abortions. He idly mentions that he'd like to hold a party there and have Jill display her paintings, which prompts Jill to push the two into exploring the hospital. The two are nearly caught by a passing policeman, which prompts them to stay in the hospital and explore until they're sure he's left. During this time Adam talks Jill into letting him tie her down to an operating table, after which he pretends to leave her. While he's gone a female ghost attacks and possesses Jill. When Adam returns Jill shows no outward sign of her state and agrees to a sexual encounter with Adam, during which she suffers a nose bleed.

Danny Sloan (Dylan Purcell) is an art student who works in a record shop. He visits his friend Billy (Dov Tiefenbach), who is in drug rehab in hospital. Billy suggests Danny goes to see the "psycho ward" before he leaves, to see Byron Volpe (Patrick Kilpatrick), a serial killer kept in a padded cell after being convicted of murdering his wife Madeline (Sean Young) by hypnotizing her into jumping from a building. Volpe is explained to have extraordinary powers of hypnotism, and is kept restrained and hooded to stop hospital staff from seeing his eyes. During the visit, Danny sees Laura Baxter (Cherilyn Wilson) sleeping in the room next to Volpe. She suffers from a form of parasomnia in which she sleeps most of the time, and wakes occasionally for short periods of time.
