Cheap Kisses is a 1924 silent drama film starring Jean Hersholt as a famous sculptor. This was the first film made by screenwriter C. Gardner Sullivan through his new production company, C. Gardner Sullivan Productions. Sullivan also wrote the screenplay.

Synopsis

The plot focuses on a famous sculptor, Gustaf Borgstrom (played by Jean Hersholt). He hires a chorus girl, Ardell Kendall (played by Lillian Rich). When Donald Dillingham (played by Cullen Landis) marries the chorus girl, his wealthy parents disown him.

Sans le savoir, Mary Manchester est le sosie d'Adelaide Rutherford, une femme riche qui a été rendue folle par la cruauté de son mari. Rutherford est de mèche avec Jasper Haig et le Docteur Babcock. Ensemble, ils gèrent soixante millions de dollars, qui doivent être reversés au frère d'Adelaide, Stanford Gorgas, si elle décède. Craignant la mort imminente d'Adelaide, les conspirateurs décident de la remplacer par Mary, empêchant ainsi Gorgas de toucher l'héritage. Leur plan rate quand Gorgas rencontre Mary. Gorgas l'aide à s'évader mais elle est rattrapée par Haig, qui décide alors de tuer Gorgas. Remarquant que quelqu'un se cache derrière un rideau, et croyant qu'il s'agit de Gorgas, Haig tire mais c'est Rutherford qui est en fait tué, permettant ainsi à Mary de vivre avec Gorgas.

Une fille du village, lors d'une visite à Boston, est attirée par un homme là-bas, puis retourne chez elle avec un sentiment de culpabilité et de honte. Grace Camp (Jeanne Eagels) and her brother Charles (Sheldon Lewis), ask Ashton Kirk to investigate strange events involving Mexicans that are occurring at their house. Kirk learns from information provided by an agent in Mexico that their father had been an engraver who made forged currency plates when in need of money. The sibling's father had forged currency plates for a thief ((Charles Krauss) but had never delivered them. The thief's aunt, Miss Hohenlo (Ina Hammer) and her accomplices have been breaking into the father's house to try and find the engraving plates. Kirk captures the intruders and destroys the forged plates.
