Synopsis
Dans la ville de Constantine, les amours contrariés de deux étudiants : Houria, orpheline de père, issue d'un milieu pauvre et traditionnel et Noureddine, fils d'une famille aisée, influencée par le mode de vie occidental. Les frères de Houria la surveillent étroitement et veulent la marier à un cousin germain. La jeune femme fait alors une fugue et, lorsqu'elle retourne au foyer, elle est battue et placée sous haute surveillance. Noureddine la demande courageusement en mariage. Mais, alors que la famille de Houria accepte, c'est, plutôt cette fois-ci, la fille qui refuse…Comments

After a new government law forbids women to operate heavy machinery in steel factories, a group of female workers that is determined to lift the ban proposes a competition to their male counterparts: those who will produce the greatest quantity of steel will win. The men are certain that they will be victorious. One of them, Ernst Hollup, is angered by his wife's involvement with the other team, and he demands that she will resign and become a housewife. The women develop a wagon that carries the molten iron to the steel furnace and greatly simplifies their work. They win the competition, as well as the respect of the men. The government lifts the ban.

Manor Farm is a formerly prosperous farm that has fallen on hard times, and suffers under the now-ineffective leadership of its drunken and aggressive owner, Mr. Jones. One night, Old Major, the prize boar and the second-oldest on the farm, calls the animals on the farm for a meeting, where he compares the humans to parasites and encourages the animals to break free from their tyrant's influence, while reminding them that they must hold true to their convictions after they have gained freedom. With that, he teaches the animals a revolutionary song, before collapsing dead mid-song to the animals' horror.

Hans Christian Andersen's story is simplified in this animated feature, which begins with an animated copy of his fairy tales, introduced by a little man, who says he is "old Dreamy" ("Ole Lukøje"). Old Dreamy tells the viewer that on days when the master storyteller Andersen is not overtired, he puts him to sleep with his colorful, magic umbrella ("slumbrella") that also causes him to dream wonderful stories, which he then writes as his fairy tales.
