Lilly Turner is a 1933 American Pre-Code melodrama about a woman who marries a bigamist, then a drunk, and falls in love with another man, all while working at a carnival. It was based on the 1932 play of the same name by Phillip Dunning and George Abbott.

Synopsis

Lilly Turner est une jeune fille naïve qui tombe amoureuse d'hommes malhonnêtes. Elle se marie à Rex Durkee, un minable magicien dans un cirque itinérant, et sillonne les routes avec lui et sa troupe. Après quelques mois, elle découvre que ce dernier est déjà marié à une autre femme. Pour éviter un procès en bigamie, Rex quitte Lilly sans aucun remords alors qu'elle attend un enfant. Pour lui trouver un père, Lilly se met en couple avec un rabatteur forain, Dave Dixon, et l'épouse. L'accouchement se déroule mal et le bébé est mort né. Dave devient alcoolique et Lilly sombre dans la dépression. Lilly tombe amoureuse d'un autre homme, Bob Chandler, ingénieur et chauffeur de taxi tandis que Fritz, un artiste musculeux du cirque, tombe sous le charme de la jeune fille en détresse... D'homme à homme, Lilly tente de trouver le véritable amour.

George Irving, the president of Upton college is in serious danger of losing his job. For the last twelve years Upton has lost the football match against Parsons college. The trustees of Upton insist that Irving must resign if Upton fails to win the upcoming football match. Joan Bennett, who is Irving's daughter, overhears the threat of the trustees and tells her friend Joe E. Brown, who is a star football player. Together they come up with a scheme to get some of the best football players around to sign up to play for Upton. Bennett completely changes her appearance to vamp the various men into thinking she will be interested in them if they attend Upton in the following season and play for the football team. One by one they all fall for the scheme and sign up for Upton. Irving, however, refuses to admit James Hall into the college because of his poor performance in academics. Because of the coach's insistence on needing him to win the game, Bennett helps Hall sign up under a fictitious name and credentials. All is well until Hall finds out about Bennett scheme and tells the rest of the team. Just before the game, the Upton team pretends to be drunk in order to teach Bennett a lesson. Just as the game is about to begin, the team decides to forgive Bennett and they win the game for Upton.

In 1867, a gang led by James "Stretch" Dawson (Gregory Peck) robs a bank and flees into the desert. Out of water, the outlaws come upon a ghost town called Yellow Sky and its only residents, a hostile young woman called "Mike" (Anne Baxter) by her prospector grandfather (played by James Barton). Stretch is attracted to Mike. While the men recover from their ordeal, Dude (Richard Widmark) snoops around. Dude tells the others that the old man is mining gold, but Stretch is unimpressed. The next day, Mike and Grandpa take to the hills. A confrontation between Stretch and Dude over the leadership of the gang is interrupted by Mike shooting at them. However, when Grandpa is hit in the leg by a ricochet, Mike surrenders.
