Main Chup Rahungi (English: I Shall Remain Silent) is a 1962 Indian Bollywood film directed by A. Bhimsingh and produced by A.V. Meiyappan. The film stars Meena Kumari and Sunil Dutt in lead roles. The film was remake of Kalathur Kannamma.
Synopsis
Narayan (Nana Palsikar) works as a laborer on a farmland owned by businessman Ratan Kumar, in Ramnagar. Although Narayan was an ex-convict, Ratan had assisted him getting a job, some land, and a small house where he now lives with his grown daughter, Gayetri (Meena Kumari), who used to work as a teacher. To his complete shock, Narayan finds out that Gayetri is pregnant. Ratan asks Narayan to take some money and relocate, which Narayan gratefully does. Gayetri gives birth to a baby boy, and Narayan takes him to an orphanage donated by Ratan himself, and informs Gayetri that her child was still-born. Gayetri and Narayan eventually return to Ramnagar, and as luck would have it, Gayetri finds a job as a teacher in the orphanage that her son (now named Shyam) lives in. When Ratan's son, Kamal (Sunil Dutt), returns from Singapore, he meets Shyam and likes him, but when he finds out that his school-teacher is Gayetri, he demands that Gayetri be fired as she is not of good character. Who is Shyam's father, why Gayetri remains silent about her child's identity, and what Kamal knows about Gayetri's background are the questions to be discovered later in the film.Actors

Balraj (Dharmendra), affectionately called Raj, by his elder brother (Nana Palsikar) and sister Vija (Madhumati), is a student in college in the arts semester. As the family is not very rich, Raj decides to move from the hostel to the residence of a family. He finds one such family in Gandhinagar, which consists of Choudhury Hukumat Rai (Ashok Kumar), a lawyer by profession, his wife (Sulochana Chatterjee), and only daughter Shanti (Mala Sinha). Hukumat takes an instant liking to Raj, and tells him that his wife will only allow him to take up residence if he tells her that he is already married. Raj reluctantly does so, and thus acquires residence with the Rai family. Eventually Mrs. Rai takes a liking to Raj, so does Shanti. Shanti finds out Raj and her dad had lied to the family about Raj's marital status, she confronts Raj, and he readily admits that he lied. Both fall in love. Mr. and Mrs. Rai are thrilled, when they come to know that Raj and Shanti are in love, and excitedly plan their marriage. As Raj's brother is critically ill, Raj has to return to his village. After several days when Raj returns to the Rai family, he refuses to marry Shanti on the ground that he is going to marry Gauri (Nimmi), the blind sister of Pran whom his sister loves. The Rai family is devastated. And then they find out that then Raj has been arrested for killing someone.

Two young men Jeevandas and Shankar inherit a substantial area of farmland on their late father Ramswaroop Lal's passing. Jeevandas marries Bhagvanti but are childless, while Shankar marries Parvati and they have two sons, Govind and Shyam. Govind becomes paralysed in his right hand due to an accident (electric shock). Many years in the future, Shyam leaves to become educated in the city but on returning finds the family split in two by disagreement and bitterness; Jeevandas, Bhagvanti, Shyam, Navrangi, and Neelima on one side, and Govind, his wife, Radha, Shankar, and Parvati on the other. Navrangi loans money from Bhagvanti and invests it in a Carnival, but most of his earnings are stolen by two dancers, Jati and Sati. He then borrows more money, this time from Shyam, to purchase an elephant. Govind and Radha soon celebrate the birth of a completely healthy baby boy, Navjeevandas Lal. Later, Navrangi intends to begin staging a show using the elephant at the carnival where a boy is thrown from the trunk, and he intends using Govind's son. Later, Navjeevandas is abducted by Navrangi. Govind and Radha get to the carnival, save Navjeevandas. Navrangi attacks Govind, but surprisingly, Govind is snapped out of paralysis and fights Navrangi. Moments when Navrangi is about to kill Govind and Shyam, Jeevandas and the rest of the famiy intervene and discover that he started the division of their home. Later, Navrangi is arrested and Govind and Shyam tear down the wall that separated the house. In the end, Jeevandas recites a prayer with the rest of the family united.

Kalpana (Nanda) is a daughter of a rich man who always worries that his daughter might fall in love. Hence he always controls her not to talk with men. But Kalpana does not care about it. She leaves for her uncle's house to continue her studies. In the city Kalpana visits an art gallery and gets attracted by a painting of an artist named Rajesh (Rajesh Khanna). She gets angry when a photographer tries to get sketch without her consent. Meanwhile an aspiring artist who works for an assignment for ad of the company where Kalpana's uncle work. Due to the deadline pressure he sketches Kalpana for the ad without her knowledge as he was not satisfied with the models he saw. The next day Kalpana's picture get published in newspaper and Kalpana gets angry on that. She finds that the sketch was portrayed by artist Rajesh and her anger goes away. Both of them become good friends and then eventually fall in love. Kalpana's father comes to know about this and he lies to her that Kalpana's mother is ill. Kalpana rushes to home but to find it was her father's lie as he does not want his daughter to be away anymore. He arranges for Kalpana's marriage with a son of rich man who looks like an elephant. Kalpana runs away to Rajesh and insists to marry her. Rajesh initially refuse as his financial background is not stable but finally agree on Kalpana's compulsion. Both marry and settle with their life.
