Synopsis
Augustin, clown lunaire, occupe, comme emploi alimentaire, une place de garçon de piscine au Ritz. Mais sa vraie vocation est d'interpréter des spectacles inspirés du théâtre nô japonais qu'il présente dans des comités d'entreprises ou des maisons de retraite. À l'occasion d'une de ses représentations il fait la connaissance d'Odette Saint-Gilles, venue le féliciter. Cette ancienne chanteuse d'opérette, totalement oubliée, s'ennuie terriblement. De ce moment, Augustin se met en tête de monter une pièce inspirée de la correspondance de Madame du Deffand et Julie de Lespinasse. Odette, amusée, accepte. Il ne reste plus qu'à trouver sa partenaire. Ce sera Bettina Fleisher, héroïne d'un feuilleton télévisé.Actors

Warren Schmidt is retiring from his position as an actuary with Woodmen of the World, an insurance company in Omaha, Nebraska. After a retirement dinner, Schmidt finds it hard to adjust to his new life, feeling useless. Agathe is a successful art dealer who lives with her husband François and their son Adrien in a wealthy quarter of Paris. Unfortunately Adrien is an underachiever at his school and Agathe cannot bother François into leaving the flat for parent-teacher conferences. Moreover the family has an abandoned construction site in their flat. The situation gets stirred up when Adrien befriends a classmate who has a rather dubious social background. His friend is raised by a single father named Patrick who has neither a proper home nor tact. Although Agathe is obviously distressed by Patrick's unpolished behaviour, her husband François just hires him to take care of the overdue repairs. François and Patrick even become friends. Then François hits successfully on a woman Patrick had wanted for himself and leaves Agathe. Patrick and Agathe are both left back. Agathe develops empathy for this man who au contraire to her husband is dedicated to do everything necessary to make sure his son can attend a respected school.

Joe, Al et Willie sont trois vieux retraités. Ils vivent en colocation dans le Queens et n'attendent plus que de mourir. Ils passent leurs journées à trainer au parc et à nourrir les pigeons. Mais c'est compliqué, quand il faut continuer de s'occuper de son père, qui souffre d'absences réelles ou feintes à répétition.
