Synopsis
À peine rétabli d'une grave dépression et contre l'avis de son psychiatre, Slah, metteur en scène de théâtre, mentalement fragilisé par son parcours professionnel, annonce à sa femme Amel, une femme riche qui finance ses projets, sa décision de monter la célèbre pièce de théâtre Essoud (Le Barrage) de Mahmoud Messadi réputée par sa complexité. Mais le soir même, au volant de sa voiture, Slah renverse une jeune femme prénommée Aïcha. D'abord désemparé, il éprouve par la suite une étrange fascination pour cette belle jeune fille jeune fille anticonformiste qui devient son amie et sa muse. Amel, soutien moral, affectif et financier de son mari réussit à convaincre le directeur du théâtre de programmer Le Barrage. Bien que souffrant en silence de la présence de Aïcha, Amel décide par amour pour son mari d'inviter la jeune femme auprès d'eux, dans le domaine de ses parents, dans une oasis du sud de la Tunisie. Un étrange ménage à trois se forme alors où se révèlent doutes et suspicions, désirs et tentations, amour et complicités.Comments

In the Goutte d'Or neighborhood of Paris, North African immigrants share a tiny apartment amongst their French neighbors. The two communities get along uneasily, their relationship rife with misunderstandings and mutual offense. Salah (Sidi Ali Kouiret), from the southern Maghreb, is a witness to this immigrant life in Paris and to the day to day incidents which make up the life of his compatriots. They, excepting those willing to pursue a life of petty crime, live a life of tedium and depression. French racists in the area escalate tensions with a series of attacks that end in a double murder. Salah, with the help of his friends, decides to organise protests against the injustice they face.

Bruno Stroszek (Bruno S.) is a Berlin street performer. Released from prison and warned to stop drinking, he immediately goes to a familiar bar where he comforts Eva (Eva Mattes), a prostitute down on her luck, and lets her stay with him at the apartment his landlord kept for him. They are then harried and beaten by Eva's former pimps, who insult Bruno, pull his accordion apart and humiliate him by making him kneel on his grand piano with bells balanced on his back. The plot concerns the black-clad Legion of the Winged Serpent, a rogue group of human-like telepathic aliens led by Captain Rameses (Christopher Lee). Reggie Dunlop (Paul Newman) is the aging player-coach of the Charlestown Chiefs hockey team in the fictional Federal League. A perennial loser for years, the team's manager Joe McGrath (Strother Martin) has resorted to extreme cost-cutting techniques and embarrassing promotional antics to keep local interest alive. Dunlop, while not particularly talented as either a player or coach, is a skilled con man, and regularly manipulates the team to his own advantage. During a hopeless season, the Chiefs pick up the Hanson Brothers, bespectacled violent goons with childlike mentalities, complete with toys in their luggage. Horrified at being given players who seem stupid, immature, and unreliable, Dunlop initially chooses not to play them.
