Malinda Williams (born September 24, 1976) is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Erica Wright in the 1996 movie A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, as Young Alicia in the 1999 movie The Wood, and as the hair stylist Tracy "Bird" Van Adams in the Showtime acclaimed drama series Soul Food from June 2000 to May 2004.

Biography

Williams was married to actor Mekhi Phifer and the two share a son together named Omikaye. In August 2008, she married D-Nice and divorced in 2010.

The film follows Durell (pronounced Darrel) (Ice Cube) and LeeJohn (Tracy Morgan) in Baltimore, Maryland, who are best friends and bumbling petty criminals. At the beginning of the film the two have just began working in a store that repairs electronic goods and the manager is impressed by Durell's skillful ability to fix things. LeeJohn gets both men fired when he attempts to steal a TV from the store. Durrel attempts to find another honest job but no one he asks is willing to hire him and he has stated a criminal record on his application form. LeeJohn gets them a one-off job for a local criminal or con man Blahka who will pay them $3000. While attempting to deliver the ten stolen wheelchairs worth $1200 each, they lose the merchandise in a police chase. They are sentenced to 5000 hours of community services. Then they are told they have 24 hours to pay $12,000 to cover the loss or they will be shot dead. Simultaneously, Durell's son will move to Atlanta unless he gives his ex some money to pay her lease on her business premises. Durrell does not care about Blakha but nevertheless the pair work together to raise the money they need. First they try to get a loan from a guy named Mordecai at a massage parlor. LeeJohn goes to get a massage hoping to get close to the pretty Chinese attendant, he enjoys the massage immensely but is scared away when his masseuse is revealed to be Mordecai (a man). The next day Durrel attempts to take Lee John's mind off what happened by pointing out a beautiful girl, Tianna the pastor's daughter, heading into the church for service, they follow her into the church and join the mass for service. The church has raised $230,000 dollars and is considering moving to new premises. Lee John comes up with a desperate scheme to rob their neighborhood church. Durrel is against the idea but eventually seeing no other option agrees. Instead, they are forced to deal with much more than they bargained for.

Dancing In September tells the story of two hopeful and ambitious African-Americans attempting to make their mark in the television industry. One is a scriptwriter named Tomasina “Tommy” Crawford (Parker), who has grown weary of contributing to stereotypical characters and programming for African-Americans and dreams of creating a balanced, positive program for herself and the African-American public. The other is a newly appointed television producer named George Washington (Washington), who hopes to ascend to the highest levels of the television industry and carve out a special place for himself to help redefine African-American programming. When Tommy submits a script for a positive family sitcom titled "Just Us," she is indirectly brought into George's path. The rest of the film follows the struggles that both she and George face in their specific environments, mainly painting a positive portrayal of African-Americans in the media, in addition to staying true to their own culture and identity as African-Americans.

The movie begins with a group of children and teens playing, until they see someone walk past them (leaving them with bad vibes). The mysterious stranger Silk (Mekhi Phifer) walks into the store and exposes his gun (signalling a robbery), Mecca (Kim Fields) berates the criminal, until he angrily draws his gun and gives her to the count of 3 to give him the money, she submits before he got to the 3rd number, he was however distracted by a passing truck and shoots her when he saw her pulled out a shotgun, Silk quickly fled the area (knowing someone heard the gunfire). While away from the premises, he was disappointed in the low amount of money. Shortly after, Silk hears something and readies his gun pointing it at an unseen person exclaiming "who the f**k are you".
